Learning is all about the attitude the student brings to the class. Some students are pupils, they think the teachers have nothing better to do than to teach them. But, I've not found this the case with BetterPhoto instuctors, who are professional photographers, and auhors and have made time in their busy schedules to teach students who want to learn.I've read her excellent books, and long to have her as an instructor. She's an awesome author, a fine photographer, and I'm certain an excellent instructor, if the student goes in with the right attitude. I've been waiting a long time to improve my skills and look forward to the filters and lenses she recommends to achieve better photos. I know from studying photography for decades that what I learned from film photography is applicable to digital. And, regardless, I still have my film cameras, and some Provia slide film in the freezer that I need to use with guidance of how to achieve the best images from that film. I'm looking forward to improving my work with Brenda's guidance.

If you want to take better photos then you should take this class. It’s that simple.I have some issues with the class, I found the class material dated and instructor recommending expensive filters that she benefits from and I’m sure the filters are fine, but they are costly and if you are starting out it’s clearly not something you would ad to your arsenal. I have taken many classes on BP and found it rather frustrating that I felt Brenda was doing us a favor working in the critiques because of her travel and book editing obligations. These were the cons and I have to say if you want to learn to take better photos, then take this class. I’m sure the class will be updated and it’s presented in a learnable method. This is a five star class, it’s only three stars for because of the issues I mentioned, but trust me when I say it all works out and you will get some new ways to make better photos when you take this class. Cheers, Troy

An excellent course, which has provided a focus for my photography for the last 2 months. The materials were clear and relevant, and the lessons built on each other. I found Brenda's feedback on all images (not just my own) very useful. I'd be delighted to do a class with her again, and wish her well with her book.

I took this class hoping to improve my skills in perspective, composition and light. I am happy to say that Brenda’s class provided exactly what I was looking for. Her honest and insightful critiques helped me to see clearly where I could improve and the lessons I’ve learned will continue to help me on my photographic journey.

I was skeptical about taking a course on line, but after learning with Brenda I am ready for much more! Brenda's course has helped me to SEE in a more creative way, to pay attention to the frame, the light, the perspective but maybe more than the technical is to pay attention to my "intent" of the photo and to find the "heart" of an image. I found her critiques to be most helpful and when I applied her suggestions it took the image to a whole other level of interest and impact. Thank you, Brenda! Jeanne

Brenda's lessons taught me new ways of seeing what I shoot. They are consistently clear, interesting and concise. Her critiques are meticulous and exacting - just what I needed. I know I improved a lot over these weeks, and I know how to work on continuing to improve. I just wish she taught more courses, or that this one had another 4 weeks..

You can't hope for a better instructor than Brenda. Not only are her lessons enlightening, her assignments are fun. Her feedback is worth the price of the course itself. She tells you what works and why, and what you should try to avoid next time and again why. That is what I needed. I believe that under her tutelage, I learnt to see better... and that is what ultimately mattered to me. I wish she offered another 8 week course and I would have enrolled in it.

Anyone wanting to learn the basics of good composition will want to take this course. Brenda offers weekly assignments with clear instructions and some of her photographs as examples. You don't need elaborate camera gear for this course. I wish there was a Part 2 to the course.

I just want to say to all of those who are wondering whether taking an online photo class will really improve their photography-- in my experience, yes. Creating Visual Impact was very helpful to me because the instructor has sharp eyes that pointed out things in my images that I hadn't really been aware of before and now that time has passed, I see that I've incorporated those ideas into my photography and it's made my pictures better. This course was the first I took at BetterPhoto and at level 3 it may have been advanced for me at the time but I really feel I learned a good deal from it. I don't give this class 5 stars because I was a bit disappointed by the instructor's frequent lack of internet access due to travel/in-person teaching. However I still feel that if you pay attention to the lessons and critiques your photography will be improved by this course.
