Aperture 1.5 is the top of the line RAW data processor out from Apple INC. Not only does it process your RAW data files but it greatly enhances your ability to work with images, catalog them, edit them (crop, straighten, color, adjust light) and more. Aperture is very user friendly and integrates directly with Photoshop and many other Image Processors that are out on the market including the Freeware "Gimp". This is my editor of choice and I am so glad I purchased it. I have been able to salvage photos that are underexposed with ease. Best purchase ever made other than my camera itself!

I suggest that different photo editors like Photoshop, GIMP, pl32, Helicon Filter, PSP, and others should have a section of reviews at BetterPhoto.

After working with Bob Singh of Singh Ray Filters for a couple of years, I'm really excited to announce the New Singh Ray "Tony Sweet Soft Ray" filter. It's a true soft focus filter that creates a unique look. It's also unusual in that you can use various f/stops without losing the soft effect, even f/22. The soft effect is Xtreme and you can read about it and see image examples at: http://www.singh-ray.com/ Granted, most glass filter effects can be approximated in software, but personally, I still use many glass filters because their use dramatically speeds up the image making process. I'm very excited to be a part of bringing the Tony Sweet Soft Ray filter to fruition and hope that it helps other photographers bring images to realization that they see in their imaginations!

Keep in mind that this is the first "pack" camera I've used in many a year. Wanted to try out the 665 B&W Positive/Negative pack film in order to get large negatives (about 3"x4"). Polaroid is discontinuing this film, naturally. Ten shots to a pack. Won't be getting any flash cubes so will only be shooting in daylight. I've got some up on my website that I massaged in Photoshop after scanning in the positive (just a bit of dust removal and curves, mostly). Easy to operate. Use a tripod since it's a bit bulky compared to digital! Lens is 114mm, f8.8, 3 element Zeiss. 4 ASA settings and choice of 2 aperture settings. When you look in the viewfinder there are lines around the sides to let you know what will be in your shot. In the center is a small rangefinder and when you use both hands to press each side of the bellows at specific points, the small image lines up to show you when you are in focus. You must push a lever down to cock the shutter each time. I find when I go on an outing I wind up taking maybe 10-12 shots in total - that's a good day. You take your time. Now here's the down side - it is a messy procedure once you time the development (30-45 seconds) and tear the pos and neg apart. There is a lot of trash involved so bring a bag. It is also time-consuming to wash the negs you want to save in warm water when you get home - I'm going to bring some kind of water containers to put my negs in right away from now on - should save me some time when I get home. If you're thinking of getting a Medium or Large Format Camera and want a small and cheap idea of what it will be like - try this one out. You can get it on ebay. That's the reason I got this. Don't have a darkroom yet.... Mary E. McCabe www.maryemccabe.com

Just an average good beginner camera. Takes pretty good pics as long as you are close to the subject. Problem, uses 4 double A batteries and goes through them extremely fast.

This is a great camera for close-ups and portraits. At only £130 it's a real bargain, as it has an mp3 player, voice recorder, camcorder and can be used as a webcam. The features on this camera are: 5 mega pixels (11 enhanced), motion stabilization, 8x digital zoom. 2.5 lcd screen, li-lon rechargable battery, can take up to a 2GB sd/mmc card and comes with remote control. This is a pmp player, but the still camera is excellent, really easy to use and you get really sharp pictures. Great camera for beginners or semi-pros.

Good shutter speed compared to most. But can sometimes be a bit grainy. But when the lighting is great and the settings are just right, great pictures can come out. I also like how the Black and White settings on the camera come out with real nice prints.

Okay beginner camera (I'm a beginner). Low resolution, so images in less than bright light come out somewhat blurry - like a great res. picture does if you change it to oil painting or something.

The Pentax or K1000 is a totally manual 35mm camera. It is the camera I learned on and the one I first used professionally. I love it, it has fabulous personality, but cannot offer the convenience of a good digital.

Perhaps the best 50mm ever made, this lens' performance is still the standard for its focal length. Best of all, you can pick them up in excellent-plus condition for under $50, and the availability of M42 adapters for nearly all makes of dSLRs (Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Olympus, etc.) means you can use this 1970s-era lens on the latest and greatest digital cameras. If you're seriously into photography, then you owe it to yourself to pick up an M42 adapter for your camera and get one of these. A GREAT lens for portraiture, landscape, and available-light shooting situations, with resolving ability that exceeds all current dSLRs (including the FF 16 MP Canon).

This is one of the "funnest" cameras I own. It was made in the 60's in Germany. It's a range finder with a shutter priority meter that works like the AE-1. Great camera!

My camera is convenient and usually takes acceptable photos, clear and colorful. In some cases, however, the images will appeared darker than the situation was at the time of picture taking. The zoom lens helps to improve the details of my photos. The battery cap on my original camera had to be replaced, since it was originally loose and the battery would fall out at inopportune times. Since then, the new cap has maintained its strength. Being a 35 mm, I find the developing reasonable and am satisfied with having my prints ready within an hour at local stores.

Super camera from the '60s. Easy to use range finder. A little small and therefore a little clumsy to handle. The meter still works (uses photo cell for power). This camera works like the Canon AE-1 with shutter priority. Fun to play with.

The enormous 8MM Kodak camera used by my dad was purchased in the mid-1930's and to him, it was the most special camera in the world. It is a giant black camera and took childhood pictures of all of us until we were no longer children and didn't want our photograph taken. It is still in our family in perfect condition.

This camera is ok for quick non prefesional pictures but the quality really isnt that great. Half the time you end up with you fingger in the pictures and you have no control over the pictures and how they come out. Though some of my pictures came out ok I am a mom who loves taking pictures and taking it with a disposible camera becauses very expensive.

Auto Multi-Program [P] Built-in hideaway retractable flash (28mm lens coverage) Auto balanced fill-flash, Slow Sync and Rear-Curtain Sync One 6V CR-P2 (or DL223A) lithium battery The F-601 M was a manual focus version of the F-601. On top of this, the built-in speedlight on the prism and the spot metering function have been removed from its basic configuration. Other critically important features for tasking pictures were the same with autofocus version. Well, why would anyone by a manual focus Nikon FE10 introduced later ion 1995/6 while one can get a used Nikon F601M/N6006M which offers so much better value in performance ? it focuses manually too....

It's a good camera, but the subject must be around 10 metres away for the picture to be it's best.

It depends on how far away your subject is to how well the quality of the photo will be. It should be 10 metres away for the best. It's frustrating because the binoculars can see much further than the camera, so you may be able to make out every little detail on your subject through the binoculars, but it will turn out as a dark blob in the picture.

My first SLR camera - over 30 years old. Solidly built but max shutter speed of 1/500 and lacking the internal meter of it's younger SRT brothers. Originally fitted with an external clip-on meter that fit over the shutter knob. The meter somehow got separated from the camera and lost, so I have to keep my Gossen Luna Pro handy.

As an amateur, a simple Forest technician student. I think that this camera is excelent for my uses. I spend alot of time carying it in bid bags in its small case, that fits my 70-300 sigma lens. So for my uses it is excelent(F75 would have been more compact)

Came across these when I saw a TV cameraman I was working with use a set to adjust the white balance of his "big gun". Looked them up on the web and saw that the company now offers a handy set of white balance cards specifically for digital photo cameras. So I ordered a set. The basic idea is that all digital cameras (photo or video) have some degree of white balance adjustment ability. The lower-end cameras do this automatically (ie they make a best guess) or have a white balance adjustment function hidden deep deep down in a menu, requiring you to do a double back flip standing on one leg to activate. The higher up the range you go, the easier (and more routine) manual white balance adjustment becomes. So you show your camera something pure white, tell it "now this is white, ok? so adjust your white balance so that this looks white and the colours will come out truer than if you just guess. Got that?" This set of cards allows you to do that using the reverse side of easch card, which is true 100% white low-reflective white plastic (wipe-off-able). But the other side of the cards have various levels of cool bluey-greeny tones. Now, if you tell your camera that, say, "1/2 warm" (which looks very pale blue) is white, the camera will adjust accordingly. In effect, you are tricking the camera into taking photos with a warmer feel. "1/2 warm" is barely noticeable. "1 warm" is, but still looks natural. "2 warm" is a strong effect, I use it with people that have pale, unhealthy-looking skin. It really helps here. "3 warm" is waay strong. Really gets that "golden summer afternoon" feel. A bit much for my tastes, but it's good to have it anyway. The really good thing I find about these cards is that you can calibrate your camera (I use the Nikon D100) to produce pretty much consistent colours, whether you are working under studio conditions, outdoors, in sunlight, overcast, shade, etc. because you are providing your camera with a consistent point of reference to adjust to. Remember - these cards have nothing to do with exposure control, just with the colour tone of the image. This is different from snapping a warm filter in front of the camera as the white balance then tries to "correct" the filter's effect if you have forgotten to take it off auto white balance. Not something to use in every situation - you need to have a bit of time to set the white balance and have a look at the results. Also you need light to stay consistent and readjust if it changes. But it's an interesting thing to have and allows you to use the white balance as a tool instead of relying on Photoshop after the shooting (this remains an option of course). I like them.

This is a great lens with a 80 - 400 zoom. The problem is that the original version that I purchased does not have a tripod collar. Version II does. Tokina is unwilling to upgrade the original lens and fix this problem. Makes me wonder about their dedication to their customers! Without the tripod collar the camera and lens are front heavy and can tip over easily. My heavy duty tripod can handle it, but not my traveling tripod.

This smaller, lighter version of the BH-1 ball head has outstanding quality of construction. In use, it's very smooth with no slippage when the base knobs (pan & swivel) are tightened. The quick release platform locks very securely. It is expensive but I expect to pass it down to my grandchildren.

It's basically a good camera as far as being a point and shoot goes. It doesn't have the ability for distance that I would prefer that goes with the SLR's but still like the style and the ease of use that goes with point and shoot.

A manual-exposure cheap camera, made in Leningrad, almost entirely of plastic. Features: zone focus, hot shoe and X-sync, and tripod socket. Shutter capable of 1/30- 1/250 + B. Lens: Triplet 69-3, f4/40mm; lens mount is threaded for 46 mm filters. A good camera for begginers, used properly, despite some serious abberations of the lens.

OK! I have to admit this is not what most people think of as a Camera -- However, it does make photographs. But Hey!! This is a lot of fun. If you can not have Phun in Photography - get the hell out of it -- ((You can quote me on that one -- JK))

I bought this scanner for a hair over $100 (it was making way for the 3170's and above) and it's awesome. If you're like me and always scraping the budget for a dollar Epson flatbeds are great. Even at the relatively low 2400 resolution it scans slides and negatives beautifuly if not a little slow. It consistently gives me better results off a negative than the lab. Some reviews have said it's software is minimal but I have a very easy time loading and using it's smart panel.

I LOVE DIGITAL VISION. They've completely revamped their website and search tools. Their prices are FABULOUS in comparison to most stock agencies, and their reps are huggable. Make this your first site if you absolutely have to buy stock photography!

For a cheap medium format camera this is a perfect choice. The fun part of using a Holga is the irregularities in each image. There can be light leaks, or abnormalties with the lens that create interesting shots. Not for use if you are looking for a sharp image, the edges are usually blurred. Best advice would be to tape it up with black gaffers tape, over every seam on the body, and the film # opening. Also if you purchase the model with the flash, tape the batteries into there sockets, and tape the on/off button, They are easily bumped out of place. For all the problems this camera can have, the end result can be suprising and fun.

I've rated this a "10" as it is the best in its class of very high powered handle mounted flashes (aka potato mashers). Metz, a German electronics company, has been making professional grade flash units for many years, and the 60 CT series has been in production for a long time. One of the favorites of wedding photographers for its power level, reliability and durability, it's one of the most powerful electronic flashes made with a GN of 197. The only other flash with this power level is the Sunpak 622 Super Pro. The "CT-4" model allows TTL control by nearly any camera (with TTL control capability) using Metz' SCA-300 system and a Metz SCA-300/3000/3002 series module for your specific camera system. It also boasts ability to run in Auto with an enormous range of lens apertures and film speeds, and total Manual control with a power level control/calculator that allows an equally wide range of apertures and film speeds for nearly any flash distance up to full power. If you use bounced flash, the head tilts and swivels, plus the CT-4 has a secondary flash tube that allows a small amount of direct light to retain catchlights in the eyes when bouncing the light from the main head. If you use very wide angle lenses, it has a built-in diffuser that flips up over the main head, and it automatically adjusts its range indicators for Auto and Manual modes when the diffuser is used. No other flash manuafacturer provides the range of compatibility with as many camera systems as Metz; both film and digital. The one notable current incompatibility as of this review is with Canon's *digital* EOS cameras that only have E-TTL mode. By the time you read this, Metz may have fixed that with a newer SCA-3002 module . . . it's worth checking the FAQ on their website. Flashes with this power level make internal batteries infeasible; they consume too much power to run long, even on "D" cells. It requires a separate battery "slab" that is worn over the shoulder or on a belt to power it. The slab has a built-in charger and the most popular battery rectangular high capacity "dryfit" type that can last an entire wedding (they also offer a NiCad). Full charging requires about 12 hours and it drops to trickle mode automatically. If you need an electronic flash that can put out the amount of light your dad used to produce with Press 25 flash bulbs in a bowl reflector, to reliably make flash photographs at long distances, and are willing to wear a slab to power it, this is it. -- John Lind

I bought one of these cameras 50 years ago when I was an apprentice to the printing industry. For obvious reasons, it was totally manual, not even a rangefinder for focusing, and I don't recall any cameras having a built in exposure meter around that time,(1954)and if they did, I could not afford to buy one. To aid the small size factor of the camera, the lens folded into body of the camera, covered by a metal door. The entire camera was metal as plastic products were in their infancy around this era. This camera lasted me till about 1978 when the bellows started to show signs of age, and small holes started to appear in the bellows. I took many rolls of slide film, with varying sucess, but as you would expect, the most of the slides are past their use by date. In those days one could not have envisaged the evolvment of such a thing as a digital camera, yet alone a computer.

I have some old pictures which were taken on a 35mm camera I no longer use. I some of the pictures scanner and place on a CD and think some of them are very good.

I have always preferred Quantaray lenses and teleconverters. If someone prefers another lense maker other than original equipment I highly recommend Quantaray products.

It's the only 35 mm camera I've ever owned and it was only given to me last summer.. So for the short time that I've had it...I think it takes a pretty decent picture. It doesn't hold a candle to a digital camera.. but it does s decent job..

This 35mm Mamyia uses Pentax 42mm screw mount lenses, and is a fully manual exposure, manual focus, tank of a camera. It was my first serious camera, and I still shoot it on ocasion. Many excelent lenses are available for this body.

This is a good way to get in to Medium Format. Mine takes great pictures. The cameras are old folding cameras and can be found cheap on Ebay. The camera takes 620 format film(wind 120 film on to 620 spools which are plentiful). The lens is a Kodak Anaston 105mm F: 4.5 range finder. Lens focuses from 3.5"-infinity. Shutter speed from 10/100 - 200/100 with B & T. Aperture is 4.5-32. You can find the Kodak Flash gun for it and it does take a cable release. It has an accessory shoe.

my first digital camera - very low res, lots of compression artifacts, very limited capacity (eight 640x480 pix), proprietary file format, needs a serial connection to an old mac, short battery life, no controls - just point and shoot, but in 1993 it was as good as it gets- actually it had a few controls like flash on or off and 640 or 320 mode, the latter giving you a capacity of 32 very low res pix.

For a very inexpensive digital camera, it has given us some very nice pictures, it came with 2 cables, for the computer and tv,it can take video also, which I have not tried yet, a cd that I've just taken off, part of it was not functioning well, it also has a program for a web cam. I made it a cosy cover, as it has been very cold here lately and have had no trouble with very quick in and out exposure

But I do remember that this camera took great pictures, it wasnt a digital camera thats for sure. I loved this thing. It is designed to fit around your laptop screen, pull out (and stay where you pull it to), and it shades the screen. I have used this during the day when I have been out shooting digital pictures, and just writing emails. It allows me to see the whole screen with out any trouble at all. Also, I do some astophotography, and now I can use my laptop and not bother everyone with a REALLY bright screen. Finally, it also provides me with privacy (hense the name I guess) when I am doing business on my laptop. I used it on a plane recently and no one was able to see anything on the screen without putting their head in from of me. The only down side is the price. It is a little expensive, but well worth the money. I tried other products, and they were that great. I looked online and found this and gave it a try. It is made so well that I am not worried about using it anywhere, nor it wearing out ever. I got mine through M. Q. Canham Shades and Hoods (you can deal directly or through a dealer). I dealt directly, and Mr. Canham was the nicest guy. The only drawback there was that he is not setup to take credit card. Also, he is related to Keith Canham of K. B. Canham Cameras Inc. I use one of his cameras, and there are great, and that reassured me that this item (and a Digi Hood) would be great. They are made in the UK by the same people that make the bellows for most large foramt cameras (including Keith's), so again that aided in my decision. This item is GREAT!

I found this while searching online for a LCD shade for my Kodak digital camera. It affixes around the LCD screen via Velcro. It works wonders. I can now see the LCD screen when I am out during the day. The Digi Hood is made from something that allows it to expand and retract and stay where you want it to without having to hold it. That makes it easy to fit into my camera case. I had tried other versions, but this one was by far the best. They are made in the UK, and sold by M. Q. Canham Shades and Hoods (at least that is where I found mine) in the US. I wish I would have known about this item a long time ago. I have yet to find anything about it I don't like. Greatest Digital camera accessory I have ever come across. M. Q. Canham Shades and Hoods also sells a similar product for Laptops that I bought as well, see my review of that too. Later Bill

Close ups are pretty good, but far aways aren't as clear as I'd like. This camera was a gift, so it wouldn't be my first choice to purchase myself.
