The 3444 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs

Lightweight Carbon Fiber and Magnesium tripod designed to make outdoor and location photography easier than ever -30% lighter yet strong and more rigid than aluminium equivalent! Great support for 35mm SRLs and medium format cameras.

The tripod has the following features: uniquely shaped 3 faceted carbon fibre tubes eliminate rotation and increase stability, centre column that can be converted to lateral arm in seconds and a special low angle camera platform adapter for ground level shots, quick action button allows the legs to be set individually at any of 3 leg angles to cover all possibilities (20°, 45° and 65°), quick action leg locks and 3 telescopic leg extension. The tripod comes complete with carrying strap.

To be honest: I own the Bogen 3443 tripod which is quite similar, but each leg consists of 3 tubes instead of 4 as for the 3444. The advantages: higher stability, more maximal camera weight that can be mounted (13.5 lbs vs. 11 lbs), higher maximal height (app. 170 cm vs. app. 160 cm), lower tripod weight (difference around 150 grams), lower price (difference app. $50), and fewer clips to actuate for unfolding. The only disadvantage: a little bit longer when folded up (around 10 cm). The carbon version saves you about 1 kg in weight, compared with the version in metal, but costs about 2.5 times more.
The construction is rugged, the clips to fix the leg tubes are easy to actuate, the angle of each leg can be adjusted separately. Big advantage: the center column can be removed and replaced by a plate which then carries the camera (for shots very close to the ground), or the center column can be mounted horizontally (!) or head first. The tripod comes with a carrying strap; there is also a ring to fix weight bags for additional stabilization.
I cannot say anything about the longivity since I own it only for 2 months. Disadvantage: no crank for leveling the center column, and, according to the instructions, the tripod is sensitive to salt water.
