For the amature photographer, its great still some setting that I havent explored. many options like picture in picture. My first camera still ,the look and feel , like a professional. the only down side that I found, the darn batterys draine pretty fast. other than that its great for money and picture quality.

i love my camera, it's wonderful. I recently moved up to New Jersey from Texas. Away from my family and friends, to go to a Private School in Princeton to get a better education. It's wonderful here, but i didn't have a lot of friends at the time; so i decided to take photos and i just love it now. My teachers and Principle, think i have a great eye for it... but i guess i'll let you guys be the judge.

Having used a 35mm for a hundred or so years....I'm still tring to get the hang of digital photography. My major complaint about this camera is the lack of focusing ability. Although it claims to "self focus", nothing beats the traditional do it yourself focus ring. I do love the convience of digital cameras, no rolls of film or waiting to get them developed. Just plug it in your computer and, wa-laa, your good to go. Not a bad camera, but not the best either, it's a good one to learn on.

I can't afford a professional camera. This camera does a good job for the price I paid - if I ever learn more about how to use all the buttons on it, I will be a lot happier. I think it takes excellent pictures on auto for a non-professional camera. I like that it has the option of adding optional lenses; I like the fact that it has a hotshoe and that it has the remote (bulb-type) air hose.

So far I am very pleased that I stuck with Fuji, upgrading from my 2800z to this. The supermacro is a great feature but many of the other settings still remain a mystery despite me using this almost daily. The auto setting seems to cope with everything I'm throwing at it but I am now looking at manual settings for greater effects. Love the easy switch from colour to b&w and chrome.

As a starter camera the S7000 is great. The macro mode(s) are superb and I've learned a lot with this camera. As I continue to hone my photography, though, I'm realizing that an SLR is more and more necessary.

Great camera for an intermediate/advanced amateur. Great manual capabilities, easy to use. For beginnerrs - good quality shots on automatic, adapts well to a variety of environments. Sturdy (trust me!), reliable, even the worst (automatic) shots can be fixed in PS. Great macro capability. Limitations: ISO doesn't go below 200, at high resolutions considerable noise problem (especially if coupled with low light and longer exposures).

The S7000, was my first digital camera. It did a great job overall. My only criticism was 1) It was hard to focus manually 2) The high resolution photos were very "noisy" 3) Ergonomics was "fair". I learned a lot with this camera and after a year I knew what I wanted... a DSLR.

Using the Fuji FinePix s7000 I have found it to be good for point and shoot photos and also planned portraits and landscapes. Also the range of manual options are incredible. Even the bundled software is easy to use and straight foward. I would definatly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good digital camera.

good in color with great white balance, the exposure is accurate some high contrast but positive exposure solve the problem. An exceptional job in macro category with great detail. nights shots are great but with limited autofocus cababilty, but the manual exposure control and ISO settings fix the problem, but it takes work to know the camera settings. Shutter lag is fair, a bit slower then my other S602 but overall it does still show very good cycle time performance, its raw performace with xD cards is faster and showed both greater depth and greatly reduced buffer clearing times. Overall the S602 has greater color in its pictures the super CCD does offer a greater stability in picture performace as well as resolution.

Great little digital camera. Does most everything the big boys do, except it's highest resolution only shoots at around 3MB, versus 17.5MB on its big brother the Fuji S1 Pro.

This camera feels like a slr, it's robust and sit well in the hand. The quality and ease of use is fantastic and if you want to be totoally manual then it will let you. Obviously i would like the option of more lenses but you can even buy a wide angle and a teleconverter for this camera as well. Over all i am very please with it.

I am rating this camera very highly, but not at the highest rating because I haven't had it long and am still learning how to use it properly. I have had some problems with the dials on the side of the camera when I take it out of the case I change settings accidently. Wonderful macro shots. crisp, clear and clean, with nice Depth of field. It has RAW capabilities but I haven't used it yet. Typical shutter lag for Fuji Digitals, a drawback but not insurmountable. I love that I can load 2 memory cards at the same time, and at 12 megapixels it needs all the memory I can stuff into it. Wonderful battery life, although I haven't used the flash much, it takes wonderful low light pictures so I haven't needed it too much. so battery life with the flash is realively untried as yet. Overall I love this camera for it's wonderful capabilities even if as yet I under utilized them

I really like my Fuji Finepix S700. It is my first digital camera after many years with mainly Nikons and Pentax film cameras. I am still learning about this camera and am quite impressed with its close-up capability and its image quality. Also, the reasonable price was a big factor. All in all, a great starter digital camera. Will probably consider a SLR digital later.

I love my camera however I can not tell you about the technical qualities it has because I am a self-taught photographer who has learned only by using my camera and by eye. This is also the only camera I've owned. It takes very detailed pictures and is great for close ups. However, night photography is a little bit of a challenge with it.

Features such as the 6.3mp, 6x zoom, shutter up to 1/2000, up to ISO-800, super-macro mode, made buying the camera quite worth it. However, there's still the difficulty in taking shots during low light conditions.

This is my first digital camera, so I am not able to compare it to others. It has 6x zoom, which I like. I was disappointed when I began my first lesson to find that it has a wimpy aperture range (f 2.8-8). I bought it for it's auto mode, but am now learning to use it in manual mode.

Fuji S7000: My forth mid to advance camera. I started with using the auto setting so that I can get a better feel of the camera and then move to the SP feature which seems to do a finer job for outdoor shots. Macro is awesome: you have two modes. 1. Micro 2. Super Micro which get you as close as .3cm. I am now messing with the manual mode of the camera and at times I took bad shots. Simply because I either over expossure or under expossure, but I do ended up with some nice shots. Wish list: Any one of the following camera - Pentax ist DS - Nikon D70s - Canon Rebel XT

There seems to be some confusion about the cameras features among many of these postings. I wish the users would read the owners manual to get their facts right and learn how to truly use the camera. I bought it back when it first came out for about $800.00 It's much more inexpensive now but it is really a fantastic camera. It chews up batteries like crazy so invest in a quality set of rechargeables. I reccomend the camera to experianced users that are also good with a quality editing program like adobe photoshop 6.0 or better but if your primary interests are shooting in outdoor sunlight you should have fantastic results even without an expensive editing program. For the current price it's a hard camera to beat!

I like the macro capability. For a camera that doesn't cost anymore than this one, I can get really, really close which is what I love. There are two negative features. I walk very early in the morning, and the camera won't always let me take some low light shots on automatic which I like to use. I can take it off auto and set it on "SP" for distance shots, but "SP" doesn't give sharp photos for up-close shots. Also, whoever designed where the neckstrap connects with the camera bag should be shot. It hangs in a real awkward way. When it's outside of it's bag, it hangs okay.

This is a great camera for taking macros. The digital viewfinder is of good quality and viewable in all levels of light. Because of the way Fuji handles jpeg data, I would only recommend shooting at a maximum 3mb (rather than the 6mb setting)if sharpness is your concern. The higher setting interpolates the pixels, and image sharpness suffers. Could also greatly benefit from a Auto-focus low light assist lamp. But a really good quality camera none-the-less.

It has a lot of noise, so it is a constant struggle to get the picture out. It is easiest at 12 mega pixels fine, with sharpness set to soft. Noise Ninja afterwords cleans up. But, I will say that its macro settings are beyond nice. 8 mm at 12 mega pixels..... worth the struggle some-days.

The Fuji s7000, while an extremely decent camera in the "prosumer" line, has a view major flaws that would keep me from purchasing it again. The lack of any real dynamic range, coupled with the fact that Fuji has crammed 6MP on a 3MP sensor (and 12 if you use interpolation), has really caused image quality to suffer compared to other cameras in the s7000's range. However, having said that, I've been able to coax some pretty good images out of the camera, and find it to be worth the money I spent on it. Still, if you are looking to upgrade to a prosumer type from a typical "Point and Shoot", I feel obligated to point you in the direction of a camera like the Canon G6, or the Panasonic FZ20.

Does everything a good film-based camera can, as well as every digital function. Un-formatted photos in 6-MegaPixel mode would measure 30" x 40" unless reduced! Capable of shooting at 12-MegaPixels.

Nice for the serious amatuer who is on a budget and can't afford to make the DSLR jump Likes: Size. By no means is it what I would take to a party or meal that I was participating in. But nice to at least have the SLR fell on a budget (Really has the SLR feel if you get an adapter so it will take filters. Dislikes: Doesn't focus in low light well. And in what little low light stuff I have done has had a bit of noise. One things I wish it had was if you have the adapter tube on it you could keep the lens out.

Great image quality and intuitive control placement. Manual over rides for most situations and a hot shoe to utilize any flash. The only problem I have is focusing in low light. The manual focus is also not accurate or easy to use.

I like the camera alot...have actually had a few friends purchase it based on the quality of my pictures alone! It's very easy to use, I purchased in 2003, and am very happy with it. The few complaints I have, and perhaps they could be easily fixed with a bit of training on the computer are: The flash doesn't reset quickly enough when taking consecutive pictures, so therefore every other picture turns out blurry or out of focus due to the flash not being on.

What can I say about this camera? It is a work of art in itself. I started off taking pictures when I was six or seven with a Kodak 110 camera. I did't know what I was doing, but I was content. I moved up from there to a 35 mm point and shoot. From there, I graduated to a Canon Rebel 35mm, which I used for a long time. When the digital age came around, I found myself using a 1mp kodak piece of junk ... but I loved it. When I first laid eyes on the s7000, I had to have it. The minute I walked out of best buy I started taking pictures with it. I am now addicted. In the 11 months I have had it - i've taken nearly 20,000 pictures with it. It is still up and going strong without any problems. I have used the canon rebel, and I still tend to like the 7000 better - it's just easier ... and smaller. I have taken some beautiful pictures with it and I will continue to until I wear it down to nothing! (here's to 20,000) more!

p.s. I'll hopefully be upgrading to a Fuji S3 on my 18th birthday comiing up soon, but i'll be keeping the 7000 with me, after all, it is my best friend!

I have to say that I love my camera, and I don't know what I'll do when I wear it out! I've only had it for nine months and I've taken over 17,000 pictures so far! The only issues I've had with it that bother me is that I've had difficulties with shutter shake, and my rechargable batteries that used to take me through about a week are now dying off at least once a day ... maybe I need new batteries ...? Other than that - I love my camera, and I am hopelessly addicted to the digital world!

PROS: I've had it for nearly a year. Very happy with it. I am a "serious amateur" and have been using 35mm SLR for years (mainly Pentax). Battery life is great if you do not use LCD screen (use viewfinder instead). Quality can't be faulted. Great camera all round for price. SMALL CONS: Not enough aperture range (f8); manual focus is not easy; no interchangability of lenses; irritating re-setting to save power after only short delay of inactivity; autofocus setting button can slip sometimes due to placement. Am still happy.

I Just got this camera for Christmas 2004. I have used the 3800 for awhile and after one week with the s7000, the 3800 seems like a toy camera. I don't know how else to describe that. The s7000 feels like a real SLR camera in my hands, much like my Canon AE-1. It works more like a SLR too. I'm still learning all the features, and will update my review if need be in the future, but I really love this camera and the results I am achieving so far. I really loved my 3800 too, but the difference is night and day.

I'm thinking of buying a s7000, I currently own a 3800...I found with the 3800 that the digital viewfinder is poor (in my opinion)...the resolution is quite low, but also the picture that you see in the viewfinder is unlikely to be the one that actually gets recorded by the camera.

Can someone please tell me what the viewfinders like on the s7000?

I recently bought this camera, because my 1.2 MP point and shoot didn't suffice anymore and I wanted to take my life long hobby (Photography, duh) to a new (digital) level. Because there wasn't a digital Minolta SLR at that time (so I could re-use my lenses) I decided to go for the Fuji. I read a lot of reviews (on different camera's) but I liked this camera the most. On top of this my film of choice has always been Fujifilm (whether slides or regular) and I assumed the color representation with camera to be as good. And I must admit it hasn't disappointed me to this date!

A member of BP asked me about S7000 in August. I’ve had this camera for about 10 months at the time. I will list here some of the pros and cons I told him. A good friend of mine, also a BP member who uses 2 Fuji digital cameras recommended this camera. As far as digital cameras are concerned, Fuji S7000 is my second one. I also have Canon G2. I am very happy with S7000. S7000 has features I like and it performs well for what I like to shoot. Its super macro mode is one of my favorite options. Many of my floral shots are done in super macro mode.

- S7000 has an option of using either the LCD screen or the viewfinder for shooting. G2 has a viewfinder but it cannot be used for focusing the subject. If you like the LCD, then it is not an issue. But I use the viewfinder more often than the LCD screen focus and shoot.
- S7000's lowest ISO rating is 200 on manual and 160 on auto. I rarely use auto, so, I have to use iso200 for most of the time. Canon G2 has the ISO range of 50 and up. I miss not having ISO 50 on Fuji S7000.
- S7000 uses 4 AA batteries instead of a rechargeable battery. I bought 2 sets of 4 rechargeable AA batteries and a charger on my own and that's how I manage my batteries on Fuji.
- Considering the affordability of S7000, this is a good camera. I prefer this to my Canon G2. But if I can afford twice the money (when I bought it) or three times (now after a year) I spent on this, I will go for Canon 10D or comparable digital SLR.

Excellent body, a tremendous freedom for operating manually, and the cost of this camera for what it can do it's worth it. Also has adapter rings for telephoto and wide angel lenses, so for those who can't go DSLR at the moment, this is a great camera to produce professional level photos without breaking the bank. I also recommend getting the 2GB microdrives for memory.

So far it's been dificult to use... I've had a LOT better luck with Macro settings of my point and shoot Kodak when 'in the field'. Sometimes you just don't have the time or the chance to setup a tripod when trying to get a picture of wildlife. The zoom is great. The video mode is OK, file sizes are insane compared to the QT .MOV files (this cam uses .AVI). Although .avi's are great for making home videos on to VCD or DVD, there should be a compression option for video on the camera.

This is the first camera that I have ever owned. I got it as a gift in July of 2004 and already have won 1st place in our local Mayor's art show. The crispness of the pics are awesome and the super macro (as near as .4 in.) is supurb.

I really like its easy operation, It also has a wide range of operating modes as well as full manual operations if you choose. Really so far the only thing I wish it had was a little wider Aperature range it has from F-2.8/F-8, Also the ISO could have a little wider range, its range is 160-800 with manual settings of 200/400/800.

A superb camera - easy to use (on auto particularly). Although it says `do not drop` - this is what I have done, Twice, and it`s worked fine afterwards. Heavy on batteries so get rechargeable ones and a charger. The supplied media is insufficient - get a couple of 128mb media cards or better and you cannot go wrong

Good things are 6MP pictures, or 12MP RAW images (interpolated), shutter priority, aperture priority, lots of manual settings (like white balance, focus, zoom), all for about $450. Ability to attach filters and other lenses, but in a proprietary size. Uses standard AA batteries, but only comes with non-rechargable ones and no battery charger. Also only includes one 16MB Xdisk, but has the ability to use Xdisks and Compactflash Microdrives at the same time. Not enough ISO speeds (200 and 400, with 800 only available at 3MP or smaller). Solidly built and looks cooler than point-and-click models, and it even makes a shutter noise when taking pictures (though you can turn it off for stealthier photos).

I sudied a lot before I bought this camera. I've found a lot of helpful information in the following web site: http://www.steves-digicams.com. I decide to buy this camera motivated by the super macro mode, I can take pictures as close as 10mm. The battery life is also good, I can take almost 350 pictures with one set of batteries.

Fuji's FinePix s7000 is a great 6-megapixel camera, when you're ready to move up from your first digital, but can't afford the SLR's.
In the past month since I purchased it, I've used the super macro mode to death, getting details and clarity that astound me at times. Its quick shutter release is a true joy, after using a 3-megapixel digital with "shudder shake" for a year and a half. Taking blurry photos of fast-moving animals is a thing of the past --- this camera can handle stop-action, using auto or manual.
My only regret at this point is its small LCD screen, but I can live with that, for the results I see on the computer screen. I recommend it for any "serious amateur."

I bought the S7000 2 months ago. Having used manual nikon and nikromat 35mm SLR's for many years I see clearly the differences between these work horse cameras and the S7000. The S7000 is amazing in many ways ie: color to B&W with a flip of a switch! Delete bad photo w/o developing costs, YEE HAW!!! Instant results to learn from. I know, so do other digitals but this camera is very user friendly for a 35mm guy. TTL metering, manuel operation options. To have a digital that fits my manuel nikon lenses would have been $3200. So much for that idea. The S7000 gives very good quality for the money, but it's not a nikon SLR with a 600mm lense and 25 speed film. It does't try to be. Telephoto shots almost always require a tripod with the S7000, my only dislike of the camera. Bottom line still is the same, it the loose nut behind the camera that will determine if a good shot gets taken, not the camera.

Hope this helps someone

The only reason I give this camera a 8 is that it is my first digital camera and our other 35mm cameras were too complicated for those quick family/kid pictures. I'm just not that coordinated. The cheap 35mm cameras never produced great pictures. I am very happy with this camera.

I have been using this camera for about 2 months now. I paid $500 and feel that I purchased a camera that was an exceptional bargain. I really wanted a digital SLR, but couldn't afford one. This camera makes a nice alternative as it has a lot of features and manual control. However, I have found that I need to do some post processing using Photoshop to some of my longer exposure images. The first being is that my photographs develop a slight cyan tint. The second is that images tend to have a lot of noise. The longer the exposure the more noticeable and more correction needed. This camera would rate a 10 if it weren’t for those issues. I would rate it a 7 if came with the much higher price tag (+$200 and more) of the comparable cameras made by Kodak, Nikon, Canon, etc. If you’re on a tight budjet and you want a great camera then this one is for you.

Very user friendly and am amazed with the quality. Only complaints so far are battery usage and sometimes with auto focus camera still doesn't focus properly. Pros definitely outway cons!!!

F/8.0 is smallest aperture as compared to the f/11.0 of the Fuji S602Z. But there is a bulb setting for the shutter speed on the S7000 and not the S602Z? Curious. The 12mp gives some fine shots and I really like being able to shot manually in BW and Auto Bracket. BW on the S602Z was auto. The camera is quicker on the start up and picture transfer direct from the camera is a snap. I went back to it because of the size but the camera is seems not as weighty as the S602Z.

This camera has a good six effective megapix before going to the digital megapix. The camera has more setting on it than you can poke a stick at especially for one that is used to a simple Pentax. For a start this can be a disadvantage ie like taking landscape pictures with the sharpness setting on hard. The hand book that comes with the camera is comprehensive but can be hard to follow.I also signed up to the fuji finepix web site that came with the camera software. This has turned out to be just another advertising gimmick by fuji and gives no further advantage to using the camera. Points for: Being able to instantly eliminate the bad pix. Points against: Not being able to change the colour balance when printing photographs.

Very fine pictures of this cam and I do have noting much to complain about this camera. I love the choice of storgae for XD, CF and MD. The flash is strong enough only pitty it is right above the lens. Second little minus point is that the knob for setting c-focus, s focus and manual focus, that slides very easely of setting by taking it from the camera bag. Further on a great cam

I wanted to add an updated review. I have been using this camera for 2 months, and it just gets better the more I understand its features and how to apply them to photography. I have researched the prices and quality of image of cams in its megpix range, you cant find another camera withits quality of image for less than $1000, and the add on lenses are good quality and go on quickly once you get used to them. I would not wish for my money back to invest in any other camera.

This camera has all the bells and whistles that a pro would need. I am a beginning photographer and have found many of the functions useful. For example, it has a continuous shoot function which lets you shoot up to 40 frames in a row. You can check the light level with a built in light histogram. The only cumbersome feature about this camera is its bulky size, but considering its other features, that's not a big deal.

I LOVE this camera! It takes great pictures even in low light, and high movement. I've only had it for about 3 weeks and have already taken over 1000 pictures with it.

Back in 1981 I bought a Cannon AE1 Program. It was a great camera, and I enjoyed taking a lot of unique pictures with it. In the 1990's I used an assortment of "pocket" cameras. About two months ago I started getting the bug for a digital camera. After a lot of comparing I decided to go with the S7000. It is really an amazing camera! The versatility, picture quality and ease of use are OUTSTANDING! I highly recommend this camera! (The largest complaint I have read about is battery usage. I really haven't noticed it. One tip I can offer to reduce battery consumption is to use the viewfinder instead of the large display.)

RAW format shooting is good and clear. JPG setting much too compressed. Battery life is awful.

My first try at digital, and I wanted a camera that felt and worked like an SLR. I am very pleased with the features, and the quality of the photos when shot at 6 megapixels rivals those of my 35 mm! Very fun to use and easy to learn, especially if you have experience with a 35 mm SLR. Of course, in auto mode, anyone can use this with very little effort. Downloading files to PC is a breeze, and the FinePix software makes basic photo editing and organizing tasks fun and easy.

I just purchased this camera (1/25/04). The reason I chose this one is it gives me the option to adjust manually, it was reasonably priced and it allows me to use a flash card or a microdrive. I am just starting to become serious about photography and I felt this would be a good digital camera to begin with. I have a Pentax film camera, but I am cheap and impatient. So I feel that I can take a lot more pictures with my digital camera and get immediate feed back. The one thing I do not like is that I can only go up to 800 speed film.

My Previous camera was the Fuji Finepix S602 Zoom. I loved it, so I moved up to the S7000, but there is some subtle changes I'm not happy with, 1. If you leave a CF card in the camera it will drain off your batteries when not in use, not so with the S602, also the ISO setting on the S7000 is set to auto when the camera is in Auto mode, not so with the S602. And finally I hate the new XD picture cards, too small easy to lose. Otherwise I love the quality of images the easy of use, but I need more either the sony dsc-f828 or the dig rebel, what you you think with one?

Still learning the full capabilities of this camera (I upgraded from the Canon PowerShot S50), and it truly is feature-packed, with all the basic features of a capable film SLR. I especially like the ability to go completely manual on this for full creativity, and then immediately switch to idiot mode when I get tentative. The program mode is extremely powerful; hard to take a bad snapship. I was able to get some really good baseball action shots in shutter-priority mode.
