This is one of my earliest and favorite lens. It provides a fast medium telephoto lens at an affordable price. The soft focus feature works great with people and with landscapes. (pictures of scenes with lots of color, such as flower shows, gardens etc can resemble a Monet painting with good composition and a twist of the soft focus dial.) You can use this fast lens to get separation of the subject from the background in parks, the zoo and in low light environments. If you want to supplement your zoom lens with a portrait lens, I believe this lens is the best fixed focal portrait lens is the ticket.

This lens is very easy to use and does what the advertisements say. There are 3 levels of softness of this lens - level 0 is no blur, level 1 is a little softness and level 2 is slightly more softness. Dramatic effects can be achieved using this lens but be sure the softness feature is worth the expense. I paid $439 for mine but it can be found for less online.
