This is a real winner of a scanner - for professional film photographers who want to go digital, it is the best option under $2000 currently on the market. It is a great tool for serious amateurs as well. Highly recommended.

The Nikon 4000 Super Coolscan desktop digital color film scanner features high color accuracy and detail. This unit scans 35mm film in strip or slide format and Advanced Photo System film. Average scan time runs around 38 seconds at 4,000 dpi optical resolution.

The Nikon 4000 Super Coolscan also offers a dynamic range of 4.2. The multisample scanning feature gives you the quality of a drum scanner on your desktop. It also offers automatic removal of surface imperfections from your scans. The result is high-quality, high-resolution 48-bit color images at file sizes up to 130 MB.

Nikon's Color Management System allows users to work in one of 10 RGB color spaces, as well as CMYK for pre-press work. The Nikon SuperCool Scan 2000 LED technology helps provide consistent, reliable color without recalibration. The scanner comes bundled with Altamira Genuine Fractals software for more scaling options.

Totally love this unit. After using it for almost a year now I have had no problems with it. Scans a little slower than I would like but I have never compared it to anything else. Only issue I have is with Nikon's manual that comes with it. It leaves out a lot of info.
