The SP 4x5 Field Camera

The Wista 45SP is a 4x5 folding field camera sold by HP Marketing Corp. With revolving Grafloc spring back, folding focusing hood, and bright fresnel focusing screen, this camera was designed for the photographer who wants more than just a field camera.

Wista offers three types of all-metal folding technical cameras. The RF with Micro Swing and rangefinder, the SP (this one) without rangefinder but with the Micro Swing back and the VX with neither rangefinder or Micro Swing. All have interchangeable bellows, a 12" bed that accepts longer and shorter beds, a Graflock back. All are supplied with a folding focusing hood.

The 45-SP has the same features as the 45-VX, plus micro focus back swing for close-up photography. Designed to simplify handling and use of the camera, the variable swing and tilt movements, both front and back, can be easily set. The compact size and light weight of these cameras make them as easy to use in the field, as in the studio.

  • Accepts 4x5 holders, as well as 5x7" back adapters and extension tracks
  • Uses lenses up to 500mm
  • Accepts wide-angle bellows for wide-angle photography
  • Accepts long bellows for telephoto work

Excellent 4x5 large format camera. Has built in rangefinder similar to those I used in my occupation. High quality lenses. Drawbacks are weight and availability of accessories and lenses as this camera is no longer stocked by companies or suppliers. Excellent for landscapes and scenics.
