I just got the G2220 Epxlorer in aluminum with the G1276M offset center ball head.This is truly an awesome set up.great for macros and for Table top product shots.The Carbon Fiber is about Two Hundred $ more and only about a pound less.degree markings would be nice.Mine has an arrow that coresponds to a detent on the leg to help with level. 4/17/2006 8:32:32 PM

Whether you use the traditional aluminum (my favorite) or the carbon fiber, their unique design with the off-center post is perfect for nature photographers who want to do things with their tripods that just cannot be done with standard tripods. With this tripod and the amazing G 1276 offset ball head I can make macro shots in seconds that would have required fifteen minutes of set up time with my center column tripod. Of course, being a Gitzo, the finish and mechanics of this tripod are flawless. The silver/black annodized aluminum and magnesium is attractive and wears well. Gitzo has improved the ease of use of the screw-type locking mechanisms of their legs (which used to be a complaint), but their have elected not to go with the quick-release. The only complaint I have of this tripod is that I wish Gitzo made clear markings for set angles on the legs. It would make leveling the tripod easier. Bottom line: The best tripod on the market today for the nature photographer. 8/22/2004 10:02:47 AM
