Although no longer in production, the Sony Cybershot DSC-V1 is a spectacular camera for its size and price. I would highly recommend it to any amateur or enthusiast simple because of the quality of the photographs it takes, its ease of use, and its set of features. A Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens (2.8-4/7-28), 4X optical zoom, 5.0 megapixels, mpeg video limited only by storage capacity, and a rechargable lithium-ion battery pack are just some of its features. A broad spectrum of manual adjustments and settings for a relatively compact camera. Shutter speeds from 20 seconds to 1/1000 of a second. F-stops from 2.8 to 8. Dial knob settings are as follows: M,A,S,P,Auto,Preview,Movie,SetUp,Scan. The automatic point and shoot settings are reliable and comparatively good and the nightshot and nightframing features are excellent for dark places where flash is not allowed. It is somewhat accessory friendly with a tripod mount, a flash mount, and adjustable lenses. In terms of quality of the photograph, color saturation and purity is superb, contrast is above average, and there is very little purple fringing or corner blur. Manual focus is optional and auto focus is almost flawless. There are many different white balance and metering settings available. Some slight criticisms involve a somewhat short battery life (3.5 hours auto, 2 hours manual), large file size and compression, expensive memory cards and batteries, and a small LCD screen.

This is my old point and shoot camera that is currently on the fritz... but it prompted me to buy the Digital SLR that I should have had anyways :). It is a very good camera when it isn't broken. I have thousands of photos with this camera, and it has been a trooper.

This camera is good for someone just getting into digital photography, but I am eager to try something better. With only 5 megapixels, it leaves a lot to be desired for anyone wanting to create art with their camera.

Large range of features. Very short lag time. Outstanding low light focusing.
Short battery life. Awkward size - not small enough for pocket, too small for comfortabe grip.

This camera takes awesome natural light pictures. But it does not do so well in low light situations or high activity, such as sports.

Takes an above-average pictures. But a little bit on a slow side, in term of focusing and shot-to-shot time

The V1 has some good professional features for such a small camera, and is a good starting camera. It's not too pricey and takes decent resolution pictures at 5.0 MP.
