Great camera, with sharp and fast speed lens. Colors are vivids. Can take great shots. Raw mode, is a big plus. Battery life is exceptionnal. Cons: extremely slow focusing speed. Many shots can be out of focus, if your subject move, such as a child. Noisy, at all other speed than iso 100. Bulky compared with today generation of compact cameras. Not any better than my old G2. Expensive, compared to today (1299$ cdn). Manual focusing is worthless. http://www.pbase.com/ardo

Short of an SLR we are very pleased. Downside is that attached lenses cast a shadow over photos when inbuilt flash is used. Would have to buy an attachable flash to overcome this.

This is the first digital camera I've owned. I've had it about 4 years & have thoroughly enjoyed it & got some great images. Now that the initial excitement has worn off I'm finding that I am becoming very frustrated with the delay in the auto focus to catch the action & not having the ability to do my own focus. Great starter camera but I'm looking forward to graduating to an SLR digital.

First of all, i'm a amateur. I never had a real camera before. I use the camera for about 3 years now, but unit resently i only used the fully automated setting.... Until my girlfriend both a Canon EOS 350D. I discovered that there was more, mutch more to discover and now i'm trying to learn the all the possibilities of the camera.
Pro: Easy to use, good quality of pictures.
Contra: Use of viewfinder insted of mirror.

Great camera for clear shots. Lots of options on the dial, and it has a flash mount that can be used with SLR flashes. I also like the flip out digital screen. It's larger than the newer digital cameras though, so it is not as convenient to carry around. It is also difficult to get a straight horizon using the view screen. Over all I'm satisified with it.

Even tho I know its outdated due to modern technologies, award winning photos can still be made. It's not the camera for the award winning photo, it's what the photographer sees and how to compose that into an award winning photo.

I no longer own a Canon Powershot G3, I have upgraded to a G4 but love to use them both. Even though I am still an ameteur photographer, I feel like a professional with this camera. It's been well worth its weight in gold. I am also a professional printshop graphic designer so Photoshop is one of my main passtimes. Also, the software that came with my camera, Zoom Browser EX is quite the immaculate program. This image browser is unlike anything else when it comes to searching, naming and renaming photos.

Sure, I'd love a dSLR or film SLR, but this was the best I could afford, and its served me really well. Its got a great range of manual functions, and I still haven't gotten around to using them all. Great color depth, especially with extra saturation on, and prints out some beautiful, sharp 8x10's. I love my G3!

I really like my camera. It's quite easy to use and fun to photograph with. Though I have not yet learned to use all the features on it, I'm sure that I will. The only problem with it is the flash. It's too strong and if you're too close to your object the flash will render it almost completely white.

Excellent image quality and immense creative capability in a relatively small package. Since buying this camera in August 2003, my film cameras have been packed away for good. My only disappointment with this camera is that shutter lag sometimes causes me to miss peak moments in action shots. However, since I shoot mostly scenics and portraits, this is a minor problem for me. I love this camera!

What I most liked about this was that you can bracket the focus when using manual. What I don't like about it was the irratic and slow autofocus. In manual mode and raw the focus could be razor sharp. Tilted lcd was a great bonus. After one year I had to have it repaired-costed an arm and a leg and worked never flawlessly after that.

This is a great prosumer digital camera. I am impressed with the range of functions and the image quality. I would love to upgrade to a 10D, but until the budget allows this is a nice foray into the world of digital photography. I get frustrated with the shutter lag, but for the price range it is to be expected. As I experiment with night photography I would like a longer shutter speed option (15 seconds is max.) I would also like the option of much smaller apetures as f8 is the smallest available. The f2.0 maximum is quite nice though. The macro function is incredible. When I do upgrade I will keep this camera for that feature.

It's a great little camera. Takes amazing pictures. Excellent color quality and prints some fantastic shots. The only real fault I can find is that when you look through the viewfinder while an add on lens is attached you cant see full view. The other problem is the focus. I dont like using the auto focus it's too slow. The manual focus is not that clear to define.

Canon G3
Captures excellent images; accepts lens converters; broad, well-implemented feature set. LCD can be folded and viewed from nearly any angle. Tons of features (stich assist for making panoramic pics, remote control
the G3. My main priorities were the ability to produce quality prints and ease of use
Cons: Had a chance to use the G3 for a while before purchasing one and found nothing wrong that I can’t live with or easily work around.
Viewfinder somewhat obstructed by len cone

Great camera to start the adventure into the photographic world, great pictures, good resolution, lets you plenty of room to play with shutter speed, ISO, and "F" but then you may get to a point in wich you actually need to see the image in a better resolution before the take, as you would in a reflex, also the AF speed seems to be slow.. but then again this are things that you will only know as you dig deeper and deeper in this amaizing world..

This was a replacement to my G2, I am not sure took a good decision when I made the switch. The Digic processor, takes faster pictures, but the construction seems cheaper than the G2.
Flaws: All snapshot cameras, can not focus properly in poor light conditions, noise above (100 iso). slow AF, impractical for sport photography

I like this camera. It has really taught be a lot about digital cameras. easy to use very good for beginners. As like I was when I first got this one. Takes very good out side pictures. But not to good in house hard to focus in low light. Thats the only thing I don't like about it.
Not to good in low light. and slow lag in between pictures. But other than that, it's been a pretty good camera. But I'm planing to go with the Canon PRO1 are the Rebel 300-D as soon as I save the money up for it. I want more speed between shots and better focus in low light.
And with the Canon I can use my canon lenses that I have already.

This is my first digital camera so it's hard to comapare. However, one ting I found is it's a little slow recording the image to the disk. I'm used to being able to take multiple photos within in a few seconds. Also, I purchased my camera last June, and it died on me in Sept. I'm not too happy with that one.

I have started using this PowerShot G3 for last six months. I have taken some beautiful pictures with this camera. Great Camera for the money. The built in ND filter is a beauty. The camera has some difficulties with low light. But when put in Auto mode, didn't have much problem. Its very difficult to get a picture without shake (ofcourse not using a tripod)in low light with the camera mode in "P". But bright daylight pictures were excellent. I just love this smart camera

The G3 is my second Digital Camera, replacing a Ricoh 5300. To compare is fruitless since there is no comparison. I have had the G3 for two weeks and love it more everytime I turn it on. I considered a G5 and a G2, but after reading several professional reviews, owner reviews and comments, I choose the G3. I am very pleased and could not be happier with my selection.

I was so reluctant to "go digital". I have been using a Canon Rebel 2000 for almost 3 years. I hadn't come across a camera that would give me the quality pictures that I was used to getting from my Rebel. Then I started reading about the Powershot G series. The more I read, the more excited I became. I can't afford the 10D right now, but the G3 fit my pocketbook quite well. I've been very pleased with the results I've been getting in the month I've owned this camera.

Overall, this camera is wonderful! As someone else mentioned, focus can be slow at times, but that's really not an issue too often. I would give this camera a 10, as I absolutely love it, but nothing is perfect...If 9.5 were available, I would have picked it =)

I was looking for a digital 4 or 5 megapixel camera. As my flash is a Canon Speedlite, I wanted a Canon camera so that I could use the flash on TTL mode with the new digital.
The Powershot G3 has 4 megapixels. There is one Canon digital point-and-shoot with 5 megapixels but it has a slightly higher minimum aperture and a slighter longer minimum focus range. That is why I decided on the G3.
I have used it now for 4 weeks. The rechargeable battery lasts for hours even when I use the display to shoot and view images. The controls are extremely easy to use. It has not been a hard learning experience. It just takes some time to learn all the features that you don't have in a film SLR. The white balance, macro mode, manual focus, and exposure settings are all in buttons that you can change in a flash. The less often used controls like changing the ISO, or the file resolution are reached through a pop-down display. This is less convenient at first but I find that I am navigating through them quickly now.
This is my first digital camera. All my experience before was with film-based SLRs.
I highly recommend the Powershot G3. You can produce high resolution .tiff files with this camera and it has all the features to be used at an advanced amateur or semi-professional level.

New to me and there are lots of buttons to push and colors to know but in the Auto mode it's very good. Just need time to study.

The powershot G3 is a great camera to get introduced to digital photography. In this same price range there are quite a few good choice, particularly the Nikon Cool Pix's. Also the new G5 (a 5 Mp version) is probably very nice also, though I haven't seen any reviews.
Two features that slanted my decision towards the G3 are: 1 the intervalometer (allows you to take a picture at user-defined intervals e.g. 100 photos every twelve minutes)
2. I think compact flash cards are the way to go for storage devices.
Other than those qualities, I imagine the Nikon's and Canon's yield similar imgage quality. Which is to say its good, but not great. One of my problems with the G3 is that the images almost always come out "soft" and ned sharpening in Photoshop. Secondly the lcd screen scratches so easily. lastly, the telephoto lens attachment is virtually useless, although I really like the wide angle attachment (there's a 0.4x one available).
cheers

I have no complaints with the G3. An excellent camara. If I had a wish, it would be that you could produce longer exposures (max 15 sec).
