Picked up this bargain on ebay - used for less than $150.00. This is my second Panasonic FZ (I still have an FZ1). GREAT LENS! Hard to beat for reach and well executed stabilization for the telephoto shots. Can also use as a macro to overcome the great depth of field. Only caveat - stay at the low ISO settings to avoid noise and image degradation. If I am only taking one camera with me, I take this every time. Shots taken from the same vantage at the same time normally require little Photoshop work when compared with those taken with my digital Rebel, which always need levels and lighting editing to "pop". If you can pick one up used you will never regret it!

Having owned over 100 digicams in the last 10 years, I can say that most were okay, a few were good & a couple have been fabulous. Only one has been fabulous & a tremendous bargain. That is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7! First I want to address the shortcomings, before I sing the praises of this wonderful little D-SLR style point & shoot compact zoom. The noise factor. It's there, it's prevelent & because of the Venus II engine, it ain't going away! Agressive noise reduction doesn't seem to help either. Anything shot at over 100 ISO is going to suffer from both noise & a loss of detail, particularly in shadow areas, due to the combination of a noisy sensor & very agressive noise reduction. My solution is to use manual settings whenever possible, shoot in the TIFF mode, never use an ISO above 100 & run all frames through Gimp 2.2 in order to cosmetically fix any noise problems. Now the good stuff! Wow! What a beautiful little camera Panasonic has made. With the exception of the above mentioned noise problem, this D-SLR style compact zoom has it all. The industries leading optical image stabilization, a fantastic piece of Leica glass that covers an amazing 36-432mm focal range at full 6MP resolution, a TIFF mode, exposure bracketing, flash compensation, 3 frames/second high speed mode, big 2.5" LCD, high resolution electronic viewfinder with diopter adjustment, full manual control, good macro capability, even at full telephoto zoom, accepts 52mm filters & lens adaptors with included barrel adaptor, high energy lithium battery gives 350 shots, metal tripod socket which is nearly centered with lens, shade hood included, the list goes on & on. Here's the kicker. I paid $138.50 out the door for this camera on an open box buy at a local electronics store & got full 1 year manufacturer's warranty, all the accessories & the camera had never even been taken out of the original box! This camera offers a whole lot of fun & versatility, for very little money. I couldn't be happier & have decided not to purchase a Sony A100, Nikon D40 or Canon EOS D-SLR to back up my Canon Mark II because the LZ7 does everything those $600-$800 cameras do at a fraction of the cost. Check your local electronic stores for any bargain on a Panasonic digicam. I have owned three & been very happy with them all. This one is he best of the lot by far, however.

I got this little baby for Christmas.

Pros:It is awesome. Zoom is good. Cost was low for features. Bursting is great while in panning mode for "speed sport" shots.

Cons: The battery is not easy to find to replace. I went to buy an extra (cause I hate properitory baterys) and I had to go to three different stores. It is a little too lite. One drop I'm afraid and that's how they say "THAT"

    overall: I love it.
