I am an owner of a G3, S50, and Rebel 300D, plus the G7. The G7 is much better than my old G3. The zoom is 6x stabilized IS. The raw and swivel LCD are missing, but other features are extremely good, such as night shots, auto-exposure compensation (quick), face detection, AAIF focusing, spot metering, better manual focusing, 6MPs and 10MPs. Cons: more noise than the competition(f31d Fuji), but can be corrected easily with Neatimage.

As a previous owner of a Powershot G6, I'm more than slightly disappointed with the G7. I was forced with a factory replacement of the G6 due to lack of parts, receiving the G7 for no cost. My initial enthusiasm quickly waned as I got the camera. The G6 support for CompactFlash was dropped, as was the IR remote control. The lens has been slowed from F2 to F2.8, the battery life is much lower than the G6, RAW support has been dropped, and the flip-out screen is now missing. This is a ridiculous step backwards in the "G" series. This camera would be more of an upgrade in the "A" series than the "G" series. Canon made a considerable misstep in releasing the G7 with such a limited feature-set compared to the G6. Problems encounted so far: Wicked barrel distortion. When taking product shots of computer monitors, you'd swear that I had a fish-eye lens on the camera. I attempted multiple angles, heights, and lighting, and ended up using and old 3MP Nikon to do the job. Final suggestion: Do Not Buy.
