Sony's super little 8MP pocket rocket, has plenty of versatility. This cigarette pack sized compact zoom is a well equipped point & shoot alternative to carrying a bulky D-SLR or other larger digicam. 1st, as I always do, the downside. Released just last year, it is already out of production, being replaced by several similiar models, the W55, most notably. The upside to that is it wasn't mass produced & could be worth something in 3 years, if well kept. It's spactacular Carl Zeiss 3X optical lens (38-114mm, 35mm equiv.) doesn't have any threads to attach filters or lenses, so the glass you get is it. It's manual mode is limited to two f-stops at any given focal length. There is no stabilization, wi-fi or other add-ons, as in some other similiar models. only jpgs can be shot. But it is a workhorse! Solid, well laid out to operate easily, it can jump out of your pocket & create some great frames, in a heartbeat! It is loaded too. Big files from an 8MP sensor, MPEG video@VGA/30fps, intuitive menus & lots of buttons for the important settings. A 2 1/2in. LCD, an optical viewfinder (rare among super compacts), focus assist beam, full manual mode with the above mentioned limitation, an ISO mode that grabs low light shots very well, lots of other scene modes & an incredible 64mb of internal memory. If you have seen my digicam reviews over the years, you know I am the "Bargain Man". This camera is no exception to my "gotta get 'em cheap" rule & I bought this one as an open box in early March this year for $150.00 out the door. I slapped a 1 gig SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo in it & even got a roomy Case Logic bag to haul it in, while still walking @ under $200.00! I'm still using it as my always @ hand digicam. Anyone interested in digital camera bargains, email me at lemmetro@yahoo.com. See my recent review of the Panasonic DCM-FZ7 here at BP.
