I have had my Rebel for about 3yrs. I was a point and shoot person, only knew the basic setting, after taking this class I learned things about my rebel that I didn't even know were on the camera.. This was a great starter course I just started my next adventure and Charolette was the best she helped me out alot, I recommend this class for anyone that has a Rebel..

I had just purchased a Canon Digital Rebel, and I could not have picked a better course! This class taught me not only photography 101, but the advantages and disadvantages of my specific camera and how that applied to photography. The course is structured so that a lesson is given with a photo assignment. The instructor reviews and critiques the photos based on the assigned lessons. Charlotte really helped give critiques that brought out the best in my photography! I would defiantly recommend this class to anyone who has a Canon Digital Rebel. It's worth every penny!

This is my first on-line course. I have had my Rebel XT for a little over 3 years, and while I have taken some spectacular pictures, I have not learned enough about the camera to be consistant. I feel I could have gotten more out of the course had I prepared better. Charlotte Lowe's presentation was clear and very helpful. I really enjoyed this class. It is my first Better Photo class and I've already signed up for my second. I think Charlotte did a great job presenting the information. Her critiques were honest-could have been abit more detailed and "brutal". I'm amazed at the tips that I picked up re. my Rebel and how my photos have improved just over 4 wks.. I purchased the T1I as an upgrade and felt overwhelmed, after this course I have more confidence in using the programs to capture the best pictures. I would recommend as it was very easy to follow and Charlotte's pics are beautiful. My favorite part is reading the critiques from my assignments.

Before this course I have read the camera's manual and several books on photography with no avail. Charlotte's outstanding way at simplifying things made me fully understand all the camera controls and when to effectively use this and that. I will definitely enroll in her other course on RAW photography.. Also I bought two of her books out of admiration for her teaching style whereby she simplifies everything in a way so understandable. Her critiques are very enlightening! I highly recommend this course to any photographer who wants to make efficient use of the camera.

The course answered a lot of questions that I had regarding the Canon Rebel. I'm not really satisfied that I learned all the functions of the camera, but I suppose that comes with time. It seemed to me that picture quality was more important than the actual functions of the camera. I presumed that the class would teach more about the workings of the camera.

I would recommend this class to everyone who has ever upgrade from a point and shoot. This course helped me become comfortable with my Rebel T1i and encouraged me to use more of my camera. I decided to participate in this course because I had just purchased a Rebel 300D. I appreciate that Charlotte has taken the time to help beginners learn the functions our equipment has and to utilize those functions. Two weeks after I started the course my camera had an Err99; I shipped it off to be fixed and Charlotte let me proceed with my PowerShot. Not only did I learn functions on my 300D but my PowerShot has many of the same functions just pared down! I truly enjoyed the course and looked forward to each weeks critique. Thank you Charlotte for giving a novice photographer a wonderful jumping off point to take incredible photos.

This was my first online class from Better Photo, so I'm not sure how it compares to other classes, but I have taken several other online classes, both graduate level and "hobby" type topics, and I'm using those as comparisons. I thought this class had some good introductory information, but I was disappointed by the lack of much interaction between the instructor and students, other than feedback via the critiques. I would have liked to see the discussion area used more and when it was used, a faster turn around to getting answers to posted questions. Also, I felt like there could have been more examples and further explanations of some of the topics. I had to go online to look up more information on several things because the explanation given wasn't enough for me, and a few topics I just blew off totally figuring I'd learn more about those some other time. Perhaps it was just a matter of trying to cover too much on a very basic level given the short time frame for the class. Personally, I would have rather had less topics covered, but covered more in-depth.

I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who has a rebel! Charlotte did such an amazing job, not only with explaining each detail pertaining to the rebel, but also all the ins and outs of photography that we beginners may be unsure of. I am no so confident in my photography knowledge, and I have an understanding of how to adjust all of my camera settings to achieve the best portrait. Kudos to you, Charlotte! I find it unbelievable how much I learned in such a short period of time. Not only was all the bells and whistles on the Canon Rebel covered, I also learned a significant amount about exposure and composition. The critiques are a real learning tool and I loved being able to read those of others in the course as I learned from them as well. This was a very effective way for me to learn how to use my Canon Rebel! When I started the course I had used my camera in the basic modes but I had no idea what my camera was actually doing in the basic modes to produce the different types of shots (example, blurring the background on a portrait shot). I was not familiar with the creative zones, how to use them, what shutter speed, white balance, or f-stops were. This course walked me through these fundamentals and more. Having Charlotte provide critique on my weekly assignments was extremely beneficial. The details she noticed, I never would have picked up on. However, after understanding her feedback, I now too know the basics to look for. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of their Rebel!

because of charlotte, this is the first time i've truly understood my digital rebel (or any previous digital camera i've owned) well enough to feel like I was contributing to its results. i've used film cameras and know all about f stops and shutter speeds, but all of those buttons on the back of a digital camera (!) had me spooked. initially I was curious how charlotte would manage to offer anything more than what's in the Canon manual, but she far surpassed my imaginings. her approach was creative and inviting, and her critiques were always warm and quite personal. she was equally enthusiastic when responding to any questions that weren't directly related to her specific lessons. my only complaint is that the students barely interacted with each other -- in fact they never even introduced themselves; so I never felt I was part of group who was learning together and sharing experiences. perhaps there is a way to get people to engage with each other?? maybe not. ... I also think the user interface of the BetterPhoto website is confusing. I design websites myself and I STILL had a difficult time feeling comfortable when I was navigating around the site. besides that I am a happy camper, thanks to charlotte~

This was my first BetterPhoto course, and I would definitely recommend it. I wanted to learn how use my new Cannon Rebel properly, instead of using the basic auto modes. After four weeks I really feel I know my camera! The course gave a full guided tour of the camera, explaining all the settings, programme modes and various buttons. It covered the technical aspects of aperture, shutter speed, light and exposure, and their impact on your images. There were also some really valuable tips about composition too - I now see why some of my previous photos worked and why others didn't look quite right! I also liked the questions to answer before taking a photo ("What story am I trying to tell and Why am I taking this photo?" etc) - with digital cameras I had got in the habit of snapping away pointlessly taking 50 ok photos instead of a few great ones! Charlotte always gave prompt and really useful feedback which was always positive and friendly. It was useful to be able to see the other student's critiques. I thought it would be a good course to learn how to use my camera, but is also a great introductory course on digital photography! Highly recommended.

Wow! What a fabulous amount of valuable information. Even though the course was a short one the amount of information about the tips and techniques for using the Digital Rebel was very comprehensive. I also appreciated the discussion about rules of composition, lighting techniques and other creative skills. I learned a lot from this class. It was easier to understand the different functionalities of my Canon Rebel XSI from this class then from reading a manual or book and I have read both. I now know how to set my ISO, WB, and Aperture properly due to this class. I'm also taking better quality photos based on what I learned from this class. Earlier, I had very basic knowledge of a camera and how it works. Without this class, I would never have known my Canon Rebel like I do now. I was expecting to learn only about the camera. This was a really good course and I recommend it without hesitation. The lessons were detailed and clear, and by the end of the four weeks I felt I had a good understanding of what the camera could and couldn't do. The assignments left plenty of room for creativity and challenge, and Charlotte's in-depth feedback on the assignment photos was very helpful. The course has given me the base I needed to move forward and make the most of my camera, and also helped me identify the type of photography I enjoy best.

Before taking Charlotte's class I was intimidated by my camera and even scared to work with it for fear of doing something wrong. I even had a fear of taking the class thinking I wouldn't catch on. The knowledge I gained from this class was unbelievable. I now take pictures with confidence and enjoy it as a result so much more. This is a must for any beginner with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel. Charlotte is an excellent instructor. I would highly recommend Charlotte Lowrie's Field Guide on the Digital Rebel XTi/400D as well.

This is an excellent course, my first with Charlotte and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Until competing this course I was a point and shoot person, I had no idea how to use my camera properly. Truly, if any course had her name on it I would sign up immediately if I could afford it. Her writing was easy to understand and she would answer any question at a level I could understand. I could till that she enjoy reviewing the photos while giving excellent feedback on them. It was so much fun to use the P, TV, and AV modes. I shot some photos I never did before because I didn't have the knowledge. I took the lessons and went out into field and tried them. The results brought happiness to me. I learned a lot about my Rebel and also learned a lot about photo technique, this is the second course that I take here at BetterPhoto and I will taken some more because I am hooked with the BetterPhoto system and I am really seeing a lot of improvement on my photos.
You can't go wrong with Charlotte on this course, she has all the knowledge and transmits her ideas and critiques in a very professional manner without being rude or out of line. All the questions are answered very fast and in a language that is easy to understand.

This course really helped me move from using the pre-set modes to really understanding the creative & manual modes. I loved having photo assignments every week because they pushed me to take better photos by using the tips and information included in each week's lesson. Charlotte's thoughtful critiques helped me to look at my own photos more closely in order to expand and polish my skills.

This class was a great experiance. I feel I have truely advanced in my photos and techniques, I never ventured out of auto mode. Now, I find I'm always thinking of how I want my photo to look - not how the camera decides. I would highly recommend this class to anyone looking to advance from point and shoot to really learning to work their camera.

This was the first class that I have taken from this site, but it will NOT be the last! Charlotte was SO helpful and I learned so much. I did not end up having enough time to devote to the assignments like I had planned and I think I would have learned even more if I had more time. I have already signed up for my next class and I can't wait to see what all I learn then. Thanks so much for the education!

First I'd like to say thank you once again, the photos I am shooting today are pictures I could not have done before I started your class!! I happy to say I'm not using auto mode anymore, I finally took those training weels off!!! Thank you so much, I couldn't have done it without you!!For anyone wanting to take this class, don't hesitate! Charolette is great instructor--very accessible which was great. She puts a lot of care and time into each critique. She's enthusiastic and delivers nicely written, easy to follow and organized lessons. We always had lots of questions and Charolette managed to answer promptly & thoroughly in the class forum section. I highly recomend this class to anyone who wants to get the best out of their Rebel.

I just finished the "Learning the Canon Digital Rebel" class with Charlotte Lowrie. The class was excellent and Charlotte is a wonderful instructor! Any questions I had were always answered promptly and the critiques were so helpful. I learned so much about my camera and am so eager to put everything I learned into practice. Charlotte Lowrie has certainly given me a good understanding of the power of my Canon EOS Digital Rebel. I had used it as a point and shoot camera and was happy with my photos. After Charlotte's first lesson, I realized what a powerful camera my husband had given me. Being a novice, I found her lessons and assignments easy to understand. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for Charlotte. My Canon Rebel XT 350D used to intimidate me, even in the basic modes! Not only do I feel more comfortable with all aspects of my camera but she has also inspired and motivated me. This course is what I needed. Charlotte Lowrie is an excellent instructor, her insight has been greatly appreciated. She answers questions in a timely manner and her suggestions make you want to go out a do a really great job. I've had my camera for a couple of years now and this is the class I should have started with. Thankyou so much Charlotte for your understanding and the help you have given me. Excelent course. VERY, VERY,well taught. Questions were answered quickly and with "laymans" terms. The only problem I have is with the photos included in the lesson. They were taken with a EOS 1Ds MARK II a $3000+ camera. I would think that a course on the digital rebel would have photos taken by the digital rebel, a -$1000 camera. I know thats kinda dumb but I did notice it.

This was a great class to not only learn the camera, especially the creative modes, but also to learn the composition of "making" photos. Charolette was a great instructor with lots of input on your photos. She always answered critiques and questions fast. I do wish the class was longer! I feel comfortable using my camera now without it set on manual mode! I really encourage anyone wanting to learn the camera and how to make great photos to take this class!

Charlotte's digital course taught me how to use camera functions easily.I thought her critiques of student work
was most helpful and I learned from others photos.Her one on one approach
and quick response to my questions gave me inspiration to go out and practice using all the buttons and dials.She is a great teacher!

Great course. Learned not only the Rebel but gained some good composition ideas. Questions were answered promptly, good input on photos. Loved seeing other student’s ideas and uses of the Rebel. The reason I took the course is that I would never have gotten around to reading the manual for several reasons, busy, procrastinator, male, etc. I work well under pressure like having a deadline. The only flaw I saw with the course is that you could do the lesson 4 assignment without reading the lesson, trust me on this one.

While I've been "taking pictures" forever, this was my first photography course and provided an excellent opportunity to get to know my new camera (I've only recently traded up from my trusty old point and shoot). I found the course very helpful and really appreciated Charlotte's excellent feedback. I would recommend the course to any new Rebel owner. If I were in charge of the world, however, I would make this at least a 6-week course - there's so much to absorb. I found lesson 3 particularly challenging and would have liked to have it divided into 2 sessions.

The course has been very beneficial in giving me feedback on my photography. Although I have been taking photos for awhile I was not sure whether I was doing them correctly or taking full advantage of the camera settings. I now have more confidence in what I am doing.
Charlotte was great to work with and I would have no hesitation in doing further courses with her.

This course was my first photography course and first on-line experience. The ability to read the lesson and take photos at our leisure was a positive. At first, I felt the material was basically the camera manual presented again. But, I picked up valuable pointers, that you do not get from the manual,in each lesson. In addition, the photo critiques are very instructive. Thanks for your help.

This was my first photography course and I was skeptical of on-line courses in general. My biggest concern was the ability of the instructor to answer questions. However, after taking this course I don't see that being an issue. Granted there is a delay in getting your question answered but at least they were answered by someone who takes pictures for a living. The biggest plus was being to do the lessons when I had time and not having to attend class at a specific time.

Charlotte Lowrie is a wonderful instructor. She explains everything in simple terms so that it is easy to understand. She gives quick responses to any questions and goes out of her way to make sure you understand the course materials and the assignments.
