Family Portrait Ideas
I have a family session in 2 and 1/2 weeks. There are 5 of them and the kids are 11-15. As you may be able to tell from my gallery, I shot babies, kids and pregnant bellies mostly. But, I do not want to shy away from families, I just would love any ideas anyone might have for this group. I am going to ask them to go on location with me so I can do some outdoor as well as my studio. And I know to check other photographer's websites for ideas, but you know, BetterPhoto people have lots of good ideas, so let's hear them! Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

In the past when I've needed some posing ideas, I just went into Google and put in Family Photography. There should be several sites come up that will give you some good ideas. Another thing, go to sites like JC Penney Studios, or Olan Mills Photography and look at some of the poses they use. I would try to keep it as simple and natural as possible. Maybe take them to a park where there are benches, or even rocks to pose the kids on. I dont know if this has helped or not, but I hope so. Good Luck!

GOOD DAY, I KNOW THIS MAY NOT HELP WITH THE SITTING YOU HAD SCHEDUALED, BUT IT MAY IN THE FUTURE.I HAVE TAUGHT POSING FOR THE COMPANIES( NEWLY HIRED PHOTOGRAPHERS AND ) YOU MENTIONED AND HAVE WRITTEN 3 BOOKS ON THE SUDJESCT. I REALLY DO NEED MORE INFO TO HELP, BUT LETS GIVE YOU SOME RULES OF THUMB. WHEN YOU START WITH YOUR FIRST ROW- SEAT YOU SUBJECTS ALTERNATING EVERY OTHER ONE WITH 1/2 A HEAD DIFFERENCE THEN THE SUBJECT NEXT TO OTHER, WHEN YOU MOVE TO THE 2ND ROW IT'S THE SAME RULE BUTTHE SECOND ROW SHOULD BE A FULL HEAD SIZE HIGHER THEN THE 1ST ROW. I PUT THESE AS GRAPHS IN MY BOOKS AND I'LL TRY TO POST EXAMPLES FOR YOU . AND WHEN YOU TAKE FAMILY PORTRAITS - DON'T FOR GET THE APPROVALS: A SET OF PORTRAITS THAT COMPLAMENT THE GROUP SHOT. SAME BACKGROUND, BREAK THEM UP: JUST MOM &DAD- MOM W/ GIRL- DAD W/ BOYS- JUST KIDS - GRAND PARENT ALONE- GRANDPERANTS WITH GR.KIDS- GR.PARENTS W/ THIER ADULT CHILD.ECT. SEE HOW THIS AS A GROUPING ON A WALL WILL BE EXCITING TO THEM AND MAKE YOU MORE MONEY? DEBBY TABB

Kimberly, I have seen something that I thought would be very sentimental... If you do a mother & daughter or family and perhaps for some reason the (ex.) grandmother has passed away or lives out of state but they want to include her/ let them hold open a family album with an 8x10 of HER in it/ it's very nice....the one I saw....
