Daylab Copy System

In the past, if you wanted to do Polaroid transfers (as in Kathleen Carr's online photography course Polaroid Image and Emulsion Transfers), you were pretty much required to shoot slides.

With the advent of the Daylab Copy System and Copy System Pro, you can now make these beautiful images from your digital camera, as well as from any prints you happen to have.

With this new device, it's now easy to copy your prints onto Polaroid film. In just 60 seconds your 4x6 prints are captured onto a 3x4 Polaroid print. There is no need to take your pictures to a processing center.

You are no longer required to shoot slides for Polaroid transfers. Nor will you ever have to convert your print negatives or digital photos to slides again.

If you are interested in learning the art of image and emulsion transfers with the Polaroid 669 peel-apart color film, then the Daylab Copy System is your creative tool.

You can even experiment with making images of some 3D objects for image and emulsion transfer onto other mediums. Your new image transfers can be created on watercolor paper, silk, and any porous material. Your new emulsion transfers can be applied to glass, porcelain, tile, plastic, and even 3-D objects, such as ceramics, stones, and sculpture.

So you can create images like this from your digital files. All you have to do is print off your favorite image, place it on the Daylab Copy System, press a button and - voila! - you have a Polaroid that you can manipulate in numerous creative ways.

The Copy System costs about $199. The Copy System Pro, at $299, has a better lens, and a filter holder for color correction filters (in the Copy System, you can take the filters to the flash unit - it's just more hassle). The units run on four C batteries, and an optional power adapter is available for $29.95. To buy a Daylab Copy System or Copy System Pro, check BHPhoto.com or one of the dealers listed at Daylab.com's directory of dealers.

To Learn How...
If you would like to learn this creative art, sign up for Kathleen Carr's fun online photo course:

Alternatively, Kathleen has written two excellent guidebooks on the subject:

Polaroid Transfers: A Complete Visual Guide to Creating Image and Emulsion Transfers, by Kathleen Thormod Carr Polaroid Manipulations: A Complete Visual Guide to Creating SX-70, Transfer, and Digital Prints, by Kathleen Thormod Carr

These guides will show you how to create Polaroid image transfers - as well as emulsion transfers. To make image transfers, you peel apart the Polaroid before it has a chance to develop and then transfer the dye-laden negative onto a receptive surface. With the latter process, you cook the positive gel layer off of the Polaroid and place it on whatever surface or object you prefer.
