Brenda, you are a successful writer, nature and travel photographer. Did you go to a school to learn photography?

Brenda Tharp:

No, but I did study regularly under working professionals, including National Geographic photojournalists, stock and nature photographers.

Did your early photographic goals include earning a living from photography, or did it start as a way to express yourself creatively?

Brenda Tharp:

Initially, it was the lure of adventure and the opportunity to experience both places and events that drew me to photography. I never really thought of myself as an artist, to begin with, really.

What is one of your favorite places to travel to take photographs?

Brenda Tharp:

This has to be the most difficult question in the interview! I love the desert, but I also love the mountains; I love Italy, Europe in general, but I know I'd also love South America and other places. I think the true answer is "the next place I'm going to" because each location offers an opportunity to express my feelings about it, my personal interpretation of the place. I'm happy just about everywhere I go for the challenges it presents, and the adventure.
