For as long as I can remember I was always with a camera flashing in people's faces. I was given my first camera -- a 35mm -- from my mother for Christmas. I can not tell you why I never became a photographer being that it was always something I've enjoyed. Instead, I became an educator and currently hold a Master's degree in Reading Education. I am the oldest of 14 children -- 9 girls and 5 boys. Yes, my parents kept busy! Teaching came naturally to me. Three years ago I resigned from my job so I could be a better mom to my own two children, Malik, 16 and Malia 13. My husband of 19 years has always encouraged me to go after whatever I wanted in life and I always tried but life -- college, two babies, two degrees and a business -- seemed to get in the way and put things on hold. There was never any extra time. So, now that they're older I can now focus on something SHANNON wants to do -- photography! Although this journey has recently started I am having FUN!! I purchased my first digital camera, a Canon 7d along with two lens an EFs 24-70mm 2.8L USM and 100-400mm 5.6L USM (forgive me if I didn't put those specs in the proper order). I've gotten the hang of the wide angle but it has taken a bit to get used to the telephoto. Right now I'm in the market for a mono and tripod, ball head and TTL flash. In a few months I think I'd like to get one more lens, a macro. Living in Miami provides many photo opportunities that I'm looking forward to capturing. At the present, my immediate subjects are my two teens, 3 year old rottweiler (Onyx), 1 year old Maine coon (Ruj) and my two year old niece, Nyah. At the present my photography goals are to learn as much as I can about my new camera as well as capturing the right picture with the right exposure. Right now, night time photography frightens me only because I have no clue what I'm doing. I'm really looking forward to hone those skills. I have 3 ultimate photographic desires: 1) to shoot amazing images on the African Sahara as well as in the Brazilian rainforest, 2) to shoot ONE (yes, one and only one) wedding, and 3) to shoot the Eiffel from the ground up as well as from top down. I said one wedding because the stress of capturing someone's once in a lifetime magical memory with the potential of making a mistake (dead battery, showing up late, virus infected memory card, etc.) would drive me nuts. I'd do one just to say I accomplished it. Most likely it would be a family member. I look forward to learning daily from my Better Photo family!!
