I hope to get back to the refuge -- that area is great and we had a wonderful time (after we remembered to slather on the mosquito repellant, that is)! Nice look at this lighthouse, and I'm delighted to hear they'll be repainting it! #1197349

As Monnie said, we really enjoyed this area, and this light is in a spectacular location. Glad to hear it is being repaired...and particularly glad it it being painted. Nicely perspective...nicely done. #8080016

Jack and Monnie, Thank you for your nice comments. Yes, the mosquitos are still abundant. When I got out of the car I had run through the pine trees to avoid them but at the lighthouse they were not too bad. Since they have replaced the top portion of the lighthouse, the park service is now letting you climb to the top. The volunteer on duty said that crews will be working on re-pointing the mortar and once that is done the repainting will begin. I think he said it would all be completed in about two years.
