Mono Lake Dawn Silhouette

Uploaded: August 13, 2009

Description

I've said it before, but no two visits to this site are the same. The weather and lighting conditions vary, and the light changes so rapidly as the sun rises and sets that you're never in quite the same place during the same lighting conditions.

The lake is unusually low at the moment, making the tufa formations rise higher than normal above the water. Many of these limestone tufa formations may soon be submerged as the lake rises 10 feet to comply with a recent court order. Come see them in their full glory while you still can.

Taken at dawn after shooting the Perseid Meteor Shower all night. As John Muir once said, I can sleep when I'm dead!

Exif: F Number: 16, Exposure Bias Value: -1.67, ExposureTime: 1/320 seconds, Flash: did not fire, compulsory flash mode, ISO: 400, White balance: Auto white balance, FocalLength: 105.00 mm, Model: Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Once today I remarked about "the most unique presentation of Mono Lake I've seen" and now I say it again, Jeff. This is remarkable! #1167889
