Through the Fog of Night...I Shine Bright!
Uploaded: July 29, 2009
In May of this year, the Pigeon Point Lighthouse went dark for over a week before it was reported by a boater navigating the dangerous shoals that surround this lighthouse. A smaller light was placed on the banister of the tower facing out into the dark waters until the aero-beacon can be replaced. The small light reflected back on the Fresnel lens inside the beacon room and along with the long exposure created the beam of light that was captured in this image. 5/14/09 at 8:38 pm on a very foggy night in Pescadero, California. Canon 50D, 100-400 IS, Manual, ISO 100, f/8, 32 seconds,at 150mm.

Quite possibly one of the best shots I've seen of this historical location, Amanda. You've really created a magnificent piece of art here :o) Very compelling... #7794944Ron McEwan July 29, 2009
I hope this is the one. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to get through the pipe line. I have had people comment on my photo while I am editing it and the comments comes through with a different number but no picture. This is in keeping with your expert work Amanda, it will come up again I am sure of it. Beautiful work. Interesting recent history here. It was all cloudy and foggy and I was in sunshine all the time.RON #7794990

Totally awesome,Amanda -- you are the undisputed champion of night lighthouse photography in my book. Just gorgeous! #7795273Maria A. Gonzalez July 30, 2009
Wow,Amanda...I love the blue tones of the sky and the ocean, they almost blend together...The position of the rocks and their color add a nice touch of color,it does not brake the smooth look of the water and it's tanquility..Oh ,but the iluminated window of the lighthouse gives a sense of perspective and a beautiful touch..(You got great detail in that little window)It really attracts me ,somehow....Marty Straub July 30, 2009
Each and every photo you share with us instantly becomes a favorite of mine, Amanda. Your composition, as in this one, is always flawless. You gave the lighthouse room to signal into the darkness. I love the misty blue with accents of golden light. You've included enough of the dangerous shore to show the need for this light. I often get the sense that a passerby to the same scene would say, "Yeah, whatever..." But your magnificent talent brings out the magic that often goes unnoticed. #7797318Susie Peek-Swint July 31, 2009
