Really like this shot, Matt. Love the colors and the silhouette, and the position of the boat. Well done! :) #1155201

Hi Matt! This image is especially interesting as the boat is about to disappear from the shot. I have no idea what lies in the shadows of the dark mass on the right so I can use my own imagination to create the scenario. They could be returning to the dock after a successful evening's fishing; they could be hoping the battery holds up on that electric trolling motor as they still have a couple of miles to go and it will soon be dark and they stayed out later than they had intended. I am almost seeing the somewhat anxious body-language of the figures as they lean forward.
Of course my thoughts are probably not the relity of the situation at all but this is why I like other folks' images that suggest things beyond just the pixels on my screen.
Thanks for sharing this Matt and would you care to tell us a bit about where this is and your camera setting etc? I would also be interested to know whether it was a deliberate composition decision to have the boat about to disappear rather than taking the shot when it was across on the left bank. Both would work for me but the one you have shared adds a little intrigue.
Well done! Pete #7748125

Love the colors and composition! The texture on the water as the boat makes it's trail is an interesting effect as well.
Like the peaceful silhoutte!

Thanks to everyone for there kind words! Peter, you were exactly right with your first guess! I took this photo at French Creek State Park in South Eastern Pennsylvania about 10 minutes after sunset. The dock was exactly were the shadow was on the right and they were getting ready to tie up the boat! Also this was not a delibrate composition. When I got to this spot the boat was in the upper left hand part of the lake. My spot was up on a dam surrounding the south side of the lake. Since the boat was traveling towards me it didnt deliver what I was looking for, I wanted to wait until the boat was sideways like in the picture. I was guessing since the sun just set, and they were traveling towards the dock, then at some point it would turn sideways which it did! I was extremely happy with the results

Thanks again, Matt Gerhart #7749797

Matt, I love this photo also. I think this one has more color to it especially in the sky, the other one is sort of whited out in the sky.
Thanks for the extra info about the photo. You seem to be in the right place for a photo a lot! :) Way to go!

Pete, do you write books? if you don't have you ever thought of taking it up? You'd be so good at it. :) #7861076
