Thanks for all the great feedback!The main advice I can give is PATIENCE!
My set-up was a pit unorthodox...I had my Sigma 70-300mm lens on a tripod in the corner of the room with the cable release on my camera stretched as far as it would go.
Then I set up a 9x13 Pyrex container with about an inch of water in the direct sunlight on a dark cloth. The I hung up two gels (green and red) off to one side of the dish in the sunlight to create the colors.
Then I pre-focused my camera (on Manual focus) to a specific point...in this case the "e" of pyrex printed on the bottle. That way I had a target for the water drop.
I dropped a fairly steady stream of water (using a contact solution bottle) on the "e" and held down the button on the cable release so that it would fire as soon as the flash was charged each time.
I probably shot 200 images and had about 20 that turned out...I had a ton of flat water shots in an old pyrex dish :)
Settings were as follows: f/7.1, 1/200th, ISO 100, built-in flash on camera.
