The Biggest Moon
Uploaded: December 14, 2008
Friday night was the largest full moon of the year. Shot this handheld, no tripod - this was one big moon!
Cropped a small amount, used the unsharp mask tool and adjusted levels and color.

Christie, your moon shots are getting better and better. Great capture. I was going to go out the other night when the moon was full and so bright, but it was FREEZING! #1051423Usman M. Bajwa December 14, 2008

I shot this right at dusk.....at 4:15 - I had on coat, hat, muffler, long johns and 2 pairs of gloves. Not exactly sure how I depressed the shutter - much less being able to get to the viewfinder! LOL! #6890996Christie R. Bielss December 14, 2008

Christie, to get this clarity of the moon without a tripod is a phenomenal feat but you have done it!!! Exceptional tones, contrasts, clarity & presentation here,my friend!!!Teresa H. Hunt December 14, 2008
Christie, what a beautiful photo of the moon. I was so busy friday night I didn't even have time to look at the moon. . . let alone take pictures. LOL!!Christie R. Bielss December 14, 2008
Thank you so much Jeana, Patrick and Teresa! I really appreciate your kind comments!Jeana and Patrick, our moon was so big early on that I was able to brace my elbows on my chest and get the shot. Funny thing is I bought a new undergarment which made the "bracing" part substantially easier! LOL!!!
Teresa, I've been dealing with a child having asthma issues (i.e. stuck at home) - so I was making time to let her run off some of the steroid-crazies outside! ugh..... #6891674

Beautiful!! What kind of lense & setting did you use to capture this? I can never get one to turn out this great!! Nice work :) #6892429Molly E. Baldwin December 14, 2008
Great job Christie! I wanted to get a shot of this too, but I still don't know how to use my new slr so I missed out on that one :( O well. Glad you were able to capture it so well :) #6892715Ken Smith December 15, 2008
It's tricky shooting the exposure...but you nailed it...very nicely done, Christie! #6894276M.Christine Duncan December 15, 2008
Awesome job on this one Christie... wow! The detail is great!!! BRAVO! #6896127Karen Kessler December 16, 2008
Hey Christie, great shot - especially being handheld! I got a few myself using the tripod, but yours is clearer. I colored one of mine orange & did some more DDR work before posting in the Comedy Relief Club. It looked so much like a peeled orange, as does yours if you look closely. Great detail! #6899696Debbie Price December 17, 2008
Love this photo. I didn't take my camera to work the next morning after this big moon. You could see it so clear during the daylight early morn. I was just pure sick. I'm glad someone captured the beauty in it. Well done! dp sad here....lol #6903976Dawn M. Schneider December 18, 2008
this is a great image, what lens are you using to get these clear bit images? #6906976Kathy L. Clark December 18, 2008
Well you did a fantastic job of capturing it Christine. Wonderful detail. #6907616Christie R. Bielss December 18, 2008
Wow - thank you so much everyone! I very much appreciate your very kind comments! I am overwhelmed!I use a Nikon 70-300mm VR at 270mm. If I max it out at 300 it gets pretty soft. I also shoot on Shutter Priority and bracket it until I get one that I like - which means I usually end up with about 20 unusable shots - or ones that require PS work.
Karen - that is so funny about the orange - we thought it looked just like one too! It even looks like it has the knot where you put your thumb to peel it!!! #6907945
Dawn M. Schneider December 18, 2008
ok that explains it I have the nikon 70-200 vr how much was yours can I ask? mine was about 2000 #6908267Christie R. Bielss December 18, 2008
A WHOLE lot less! About $430 including shipping.You got the f2.8? #6908842
Dawn M. Schneider December 18, 2008
