PG101 Rascal Flatts Theme "What hurts the mo
Uploaded: November 20, 2008
My entry for the Rascal Flatts theme, "What hurts the most?". The homeless in our country is what hurts me the most. With the holidays coming it makes me so greatful for the wonderful family and friends that I've got, and the warm home with loved ones in it to come home to everyday. With the weather turning colder it's something I think of more often, where will these people sleep? Thanks for looking, commenting, and for all your suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, read, view and mostly for all your supportive comments. Have a wonderful evening everyone.

Very sad that it comes to this for so many.Tammy D. Ferren November 20, 2008
Beautiful colors in this, Mary. And wonderful commentary. A lot of people almost seem to feel contempt for their plight...but I always think......That wasn't what they dreamed of being when they grew up...... #6781594Tammy M. Anderson November 20, 2008

A very touching image, and so true. It is always so sad to see a homeless person. Our church is collecting blankets this week to give to the homeless. Wonderful theme entry and nice effects. #6782225Mary E. Lake November 20, 2008

It is hard to imagine her heart and soul...how very sad...and look at all that stuff she has with her. I have a very GOOD story about a blind homeless man in New York that always warms my heart. He was in front of Tiffany daily selling pencils when he & dog were hit by a taxi. The whole of NY was devasted and pitched in to help him & his dog to recovery. Someone eventually found his long lost sister who was overjoyed to find him & I hope all went well from there. It was amazing how the whole city got behind this man and his dog (family). Mary...photographically, this image is perfection IMHO...it's the epitome of photojournalism, but hard to explain if it's at it's best or worse. My family has always tried to do our part in helping those less fortunate, but it seems that as the years go on, it's a battle we may not ever win. Food pantries all over the country are at all time lows due to the current economic situation. It certainly DOES make you think twice about how blessed we really are yet we need to know that any one of us could be just one paycheck away from being where this woman is right now.Susie Peek-Swint November 21, 2008
A very powerful and poignant capture Mary .. it fits the theme title well and also makes people think a bit more about the situation on our streets.. in tough times it's easy to ignore the homeless but if we all just give a bit more we might be able to make a difference ~ thanks for sharing! #6784217Kristy A. Powerful and Wonderful Capture! HTD!!! #6784430Mitch Spence November 21, 2008
It's hard to say "beautiful" in this sad context, Mary, but your shot is a beautifully presented story of what does indeed hurt the most, homelessness. #6784527Mary E. Lake November 21, 2008
Vicki, Susie, Kristy, Mitch, thank you all for your wonderful response to this very sad photo. It really is one of the things in this world that hurts me the most. I agree Vicki, that we are all but one paycheck away. I actually used this same photo on another site months ago and had put the saying in it that we are all but one step away. Bless you all who have responded with such concern and caring for what we see in this photograph. #6785673Elida Gutierrez November 21, 2008

Beautiful image, but so sad. Wonderful colors and textures. #6803019Karen E. Baumann November 27, 2008
This is an amazing image, Mary. It makes me wonder what her thoughts were when she knew you were taking her picture...such a good representation of those who carry their load wherever they go, exposed to whoever may be passing by... lots to think about on this day of Thanksgiving. Very nicely presented. #6816329Mary E. Lake November 27, 2008
Marilyn & Karen, thanks so much for your thoughtful comments.Karen, actually she didn't know I took her photo, I didn't want to embarass her. We all have so much to be thankful for. I only hope she's found shelter as the weather here is getting colder. Blessings to all of you and your families for this holiday season. #6816580
