Description

I viewed a very good Gator Photo today. The lady who took the shot wrote the gator hissed. I told her the only time I ever heard a gator his was when it was ready to bite. I had a small pet gator when young. He never tried to bite me, but one day he fell off the chair he was on and when I went to pick him up he hissed and struck out at me. I had to stick a hair brush in his mouth in order to pick him up and put him back in his cage. I could never touch that gator after that day. I had a Cotton Mouth Snake Hiss at me. He was ready to strike my leg. I was very lucky to get away from that snake. I picked up and hit him with a piece of driftwood. That is the only reason he left without biting me. Bill

We have a lot of cottonmouth snakes here, too. They get pretty big. My neighbor shot one in his woodpile that was almost 5' long. Back to the subject, a beautiful shot!! #6387575

Bill Knaps August 30, 2008

From Ann down to Carolyn I read all of your comments and I appreciate them very much. I never kissed my turtles Janet. Never. Michelle I stand a much better chance to be snake bit rather than eaten by a gator. Snake are so hard to see in tall grass when I am looking for the angle or POV I want on a shot. Carolyn I find the cotton mouth to be a fat snake. Bill #6387617

Don't know how I missed this one, Bill as it has now become my favorite. I've had coyotes howl at me, deer bark at me, squirrels chatter at me and redwing blackbirds dive at me but never been hissed by a 'gator! #6405779

Bill Knaps September 03, 2008

That little gator hissed at me as a dog would growl. He would growl if he were able. Same with that Cotton mouth snake. Thanks for your nice comments Bonnie. I appreciate you very much. Bill #6405801

Susan M. Campbell September 04, 2008

You are just going to have to get us a gator shot Bill. In the meantime, we are enjoying your beautiful bayou. #6412851

A gator was killed in Monroe Susan. Just got a news clipping. 8½-foot gator killed in Monroe neighborhood

An authorized Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries nuisance hunter shot and killed an alligator early Wednesday morning in a Monroe neighborhood #6412932

This looks like a painting! Outstanding work, Bill!! And I love the background story. I photographed some pretty big gators around Lake Okechobe(sp) in Florida. Pretty exciting stuff! #6415950

Phillip R. Connolly September 05, 2008

I love this series of images you have here Bill. I'm glad the salt water crocodiles that we have here are well north of me!! I figue there are some animals that I'm just not prepared to take on as pets!! Excellent image.

Thank you Suzanne, Phillip, Ellen and Laura. Be careful shooting those large gators Suzanne. Three gators in Florida had three missing women in their tummy's. I don't know how the authorities knew which gators to kill and look for the womens remains. Phillip you must be in Australia with the Salt water crocs. I am just guessing. Bill #6421825

Gorgeous! One of my favs; in fact, I am adding this one to my favs so I can look at it anytime. This does look like a painting! Nice story to go along with the image. I am in FL and have seen my share of gators in North FL, but never had one hiss at me so far. Where I am now near Tampa, I have seen very few gators and then only in the distance. I thought there would have been many more here than what I have seen. #6456177

Bill Knaps September 15, 2008

Thanks Carol of you nice comment. I have only heard one hiss like I mentioned above. One little gator wanting to bite me and a snake that wanted to bite me. I have seen snakes hiss while trying to bite a friend and a family member. My Son In Laws Parents live with the water in their back yard in Tampa. Mother In Law does not go in her back yard because of Snakes and Gators......Bill #6456289
