Happy Birthday Allan

Uploaded: October 22, 2004

Description

Have a wonderful day, our thoughts are with you & your family Allan. I know you love planes so thought you’d like this image. It’s of a replica of Richard Pearce’s plane taken on 01/01/04 at the Museum of Transport & Technology, New Zealand. Pearse was reputedly the first Man to Fly. On the 31st March 1903 Pearse made the First powered flight at Waitohi 9 months prior to the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawke on 17 Dec 1903. (Hope this doesn’t cause an international incident.)<

Thanks Dan, Stan and Colleen for your comments. I really hope Allan likes this.

Colleen this is still a pretty hotly debated subject amongst aviation historians and there is much written about it (on the Net as wellso it must be true..hehehe) I'm sure no one will really know for sure. Do I lose sleep over it, you bet "NOT". We are still proud of Pearse's achievements whether he was first or second. All the best.

Allan my pleasure & I'm glad you liked it. Sanjay, Diane, Debbie, Casey, Terry H, Paul and Evy. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment on this image. Sorry about the history lesson but sometimes I just can not help myself. I know I mentioned how proud we New Zealanders are of Pearse's achievements but what I forgot to mention was the brilliant achievements of Orville & Wilbur WRIGHT, despite who was first to fly, they all contributed to the development of flight as we know it today. Each rightfully deserve their place in history. #871721
