Dawn On A New Year

Description

I took this image from the balcony of my best friend's condo in North Miami, FL which overlooks the intercoastal waterway. After having a wonderful dinner prepared by his artist girlfriend and watching a movie "The World's Fastest Indian" staring Anthony Hopkins (which was GREAT), I crashed on his couch looking forward to the motorcycle ride we had planned for the morning. I was awakened by Bud my friend's cat who wanted to be fed AT 5:00 A.M.!!!!!! (so really he deserves the credit for this opportunity). Factoring in the futility of his quieting down if I continued to ignore him and maybe catching a nice sunrise, I got up. The new year's eve fireworks which were the reason I brought the camera in the first place were duds and the shots I got were worse, so redemption laid in wait as the morning was unusually foggy and cool. I added the vignette but the image is otherwise untouched.

Very nice sunrise with the boats prettily arranged in the foreground... and I agree wholeheartedly about "The World's Fastest Indian"... #5501563

Thank you Bonnie for your comment. Yes, the "World's Fastest Indian" was one of those truly inspirational movies, a character pursuing his life's passion with such aggression that it can't help but stoke our own internal fires. #5501695

I love the wide-angle perspective of this. It's not easy to create a good centrally located subject & actually get away with it! You have done it. What I notice about images that are able to transcend the rule of thirds is that they usually have a triangular shape or motion going on in them. This one most definitely does have that triangular shape :) I like! #5525481

The lighting is excellent. The dramatic sky and reflections adds interest and a wonderful dimension to this beautiful scene. I also like the perspective. It offers the feeling of a quiet observer of life at a tranquil moment in time. Lynn #5545072
