"I'm Kelly Slater!!!!"

Uploaded: January 02, 2008

Description

Surfing professionals went surfing with local Hawaiian groms during an off day at the Pipeline Masters contest this December on the North Shore of Hawaii. Among the professionals at this event was 8X World Champion Kelly Slater. Kelly swapped surfboards with the kids and this youngster rode Kelly Slater's board for part of the session. The excitement and joy of what may be a once in a lifetime experience is pretty evident on his face. And who knows, he may be a world champion like Kelly Slater in the future.

Thanks. It was a 600 mm lens with a 1.4X teleconverter. This is not an unusual set up for surfing photography #5282895

Nice shot David. Great action, composition & color. The body language & facial expression you captured say it all. It looks as if this was a great ride.
I can almost hear the Ventures. #5283351

Too bad the surf wasn't bigger for your trip and the contest, David. Great story on this shot and beautiful image!! I'm assuming you need to manually focus with that teleconverter? #5292383

Thanks Joseph.

Thanks Robert. This little guy ended up winning a homemade trophy made out of a coconut shell with a character from the movie "Surf's Up" which Kelly Slater had a cameo voice appearance.

The 600 f/4 and a 1.4X puts me at f/5.6 so AF is available for all points in the 1D series cameras. #5301566
