I like this portrait but I'm wondering why her foot is cut off? #1012261

John H. Siskin October 07, 2008

Hi Raylene,
The foot is cut off because I was framing quickly not accurately. From her pose you can assume that I was not working slowly and deliberately. Still I like the energy of the shot and the color pallet. There are shots with the foot attached some of them are on BP, I think. Still the expression and the rest of the shot are with showing. Thanks, John Siskin

Missing shadows!
Missing deep of scene!

Great model, with beautiful smile and well done pose, John!!

Hi Max,
Thanks for your comments. What is deep of scene? I really did enjoy working with this subject. She was quite professional.
Thanks, John Siskin

Hi John,
my impression is she is not belonging to the actual scene. Deep of scene is my best way to say that.
I don't perceive the three dimensional space in this studio set and this probably due of missing soft shadows (apparently, she is really close to the back-drop and I don't see some soft shadow at all).
From her knees down I see not matching reflecting light tones from the environmental set.
The foot that is cut off probably is what is giving to me the most impression that she is not belonging to the actual environment.
I am not saying that this is a composed image, but this portrait give me the impression, feeling, that it was as composed one.

Now,
John you can say... Max shut-up your mouth and go home!!! :-))
But I repeat this is my only opinion and impression that I got when I did see and comment this portrait, and this, it's what I see now.

Thanks John,

Hi Max,
I wouldn’t say anything like you wrote, but id do want you to know some things about this shot. First I did do it with the backdrop in place, but I shot light through the backdrop to help create a different color in the gray backdrop. This does give a stronger feeling of separation. Second I like separation, since it makes my subject appear more three-dimensional. I am attaching another shot from this shoot. Here feet are connected and it is the same backdrop. However in this shot the backdrop is draped, but still lit from behind.
Thanks, John Siskin

Hi John,

Now I can see that the model is in some creative environment. I see space around her with nice balanced lights. A lovely background with the back-drop lighted more "emphasized" from the back. Her feet are in the frame giving me an extra deep of visual space and I can also spot some delicate soft casting shadows on the background.
The model still great and beautiful. She has nice smile with fantastic attitude, but I prefer her eyes that were showing in the first photo. Probably she look much better with those clothing.

John, it is totally different image from the first one that I commented.
This last one is a well orchestrated photography studio composition.

Thanks John.

Max,
One of the goals of a good shoot is to get a variety of images from a model. I shot hundreds of images on this day, and got a good variety of looks. Thanks for your comments. John Siskin #6605742
