I really like the light! I have problems achieving this look. Was this done with a single light source and reflector? #750783

Hi Billy,
Thanks for you interest in this shot! I really enjoyed making it. I did use more than one light here, but most of the light came from one source. I bounced a strobe into an umbrella and then filtered the light through a 4X6 foot light panel. This gives me a very large light source. This creates soft light and smooth tonal gradations with virtually no shadows in a shot like this. Most people use light sources that are too small and too far from the subject. I remember using another light behind the backdrop to bring up a little color in the back.

I love the light, too, John - very nice mood. The only thing missing - for me personally - is a catch light. Is it in the white of her eyes or did you have to maipulate it some due to maybe the size of it? I would imagine it turned out pretty large given the size of the light source?!

Hi Angie,
The catch light is a large diffuse light in the eye, moving from the white into the retina. It keeps the eye open, but doesn’t add sparkle. My concern was to avoid an annoying highlight on the strawberry. It might make sense to add a small catch light in Photoshop, but I think adding another light to the shot would have caused more problems then it solved. I really like the subtle gradation on the face. Thanks for your comments.
