Nice capture, pretty dog! #612775

Sherry - Thank you for commenting. This is my Sampson, and he poses all the time for me (or maybe it's for the liver treats that I position above the camera).

You have some nice photos in your gallery. Spicket is a beautiful cat - looks like he is willing to pose, too. #4004018

Hi Sue -- Thank you! I suspecg you recognize Sampson from the class we took.

How are you doing? I have enjoyed the last couple of classes I've taken in the Class Tracks#3 (You don't have to go in 1-2-3 order). I am surely stretching myself with photos of people in this class but I have learned a lot. The next class will be Digital Wedding and the one after that Fine Art Flower Photography. It'd be nice to have you in class with me again if either of these two classes coincide with your time and/or interest. What have you taken since Jim's Mastering LIght Class? #4110463

Hi Debbie, off course I remember Sampson, who could forget such a hansome face like that. I took the class Finding your passion in Photography, I really enjoyed his class this time, there was a lot of feed back. Much better this time around. I am going to take he class in making money with your photographs coming up. The Fine Art Flower Photography sounds interesting I'll check into in and maybe I will see you there. Take care, Sue #4112155

Melissa -- He is probably my Favorite subject to photograph and right now with the fall color he is taking a backseat but I'll go back to him when the colors are gone! #4908921

Sherry, I particularly like the softness of your image. Did you run it through some special software to arrive at this? I also like the catch-lights in Sampson's eyes! Nice job, it gives him that spark of personality.

The diagonal line, created by the white area in the background, works because it leads one right to his face. I like that he is looking right at you :) Nice job! #5337091

Sorry, I meant Debbie! I hate that you can't go back & correct your stupid mistakes :) #5337125

Debbie E. Payne January 14, 2008

Thank you for your input Jayme! This was just a normal Orton technique, which I made an action for on my PC but now I'm working on a MAC and I have forgotten how I did it. So any of my current images I have to do it all the "long" way.

Yes, I hate it too that you can't go back and correct things. I am always typing fast with my answers and nearly always make some horrendous mistakes. #5339571

I only noticed your photo entry of Sampson once it was posted to the "Critique our Photo" group. I agree with Jayme, on the visual effect of the covers being turned back.

Coincidentally, or not so coincidentally, it was a nice application of the Rule of Thirds with how you framed Sampson in the image. So kudos on that!

I also like the softness that the gaussian blur created (as opposed to an overly sharp image). I do see why it was awarded the recognition of the BP Finalist! Great job!

Thanks for contributing to the BetterPhoto community!
