Description

Pentax 67 II, 55-100 zoom, polarizer, 0.3ND grad F22 at 1 sec Velvia. Minus 19C high on Dava moor near Carrbridge, Scotland. A sapphire colored jewel of a loch, surrounded by wind burned heather and fringed by golden grasses, has frozen solid, the reeds themselves stiff with an icy crust. A small island, forms in the middle of the loch illuminated by the first warming sunlight. As the ice expands it fracture with a pistol crack noise causing my heart to miss a beat.

Very nice capture, Ian! Great contrasting colors and textures...and wonderful subtle lines across the sky. (In my youth I spent some time in the Scottish countryside, and I remember how chilly it was at 5AM--in June!) While looking at your photo, I could almost see my breath. ;-) #3722138
