Cold Winter Moon

Uploaded: January 06, 2004

Description

I shot this Sunday night with the Sigma 50-500mm lens plus a 2X tc. With the crop factor of the 10D, that equals a 1600mm F length. 1/40 sec, f/18, iso 100. It was 15 degrees outside and really windy!

Second time I've been mooned today Ron and I won't comment of the other post :0) This has amazing detail and clarity. I don't see how you kept it still even on a tripod if it was windy. Good job!! #320900

Thank you Colette and Murry! Yes Murry, I did see the moon today as well and it's snowing here! I think I'll stick to shooting the one in the sky. I placed the tripod legs firmly in the 2 feet of snow outside the front door to hold it still against the wind! Both the camera and myself were frozen after shooting this! #321053

Splendid Ron! Really good stuff. You'd never know the wind was blowing! I was going to tease you that this is really a cantaloupe, but after reading that you froze your tail off to get it, I'll just say I'm quite impressed! : ) #321166

Thank you Pat! I almost titled it after a muskmelon because you are right about it's appearance! It was damn cold out there when I took this! I almost didn't brave the weather! Freezing rain tonight... :( Not good. #321183

Fantastic shot, Ron!! You really captured some incredible detail here in spite of the cold! This is the very best I,ve seen using a camera lens instead of a telescope...Great job!!!! #321202

Thank you Len! That lens with the tc is almost like a telescope! Probably a good thing I don't have any neighbors! #322039
