Iced Monastery - Sankt Bartolomea Koenigsee

Uploaded: May 31, 2006

Description

In the South Eastern corner of germany lies an area of great beauty, Berchtesgarten. At the heart of the area is the Koenigsee (Kings lake). Surrounded by mountains it is the home to a monastery and church. Normally access to the monastery is by boat - or a long and stiff walk over the mountains. This year the lake froze solidly enough for us to walk on - about 4 miles from the car park. As I walked out, I was a little disapointed - the valley was filled with cloud and looked as if there would be no photo oportunities. However the cloud started to clear, the sun came out and Voila - the church was lit...

Taken from the ice, 40mm f4 nikkor, fuji provia 100f.
