Thanks so much for all of the wonderful comments everybody!

This image was inspired by the “You Can Do It” article written by Philip Ryan in the February 2005 issue of Popular Photography entitled “Lemon Fresh Photos”. In it, BetterPhoto’s Bryan Peterson shares his technique in shooting fizzy lemons. :)

I set this up next to my kitchen window with the available afternoon light coming in from the left. The thin slice of lemon was clamped onto a drinking glass to keep it still and was immersed in tonic water. For the background, I used a multi-colored gift bag and it was set up directly behind the glass just a few inches away.

I used my Canon 20D with a 100mm macro lens, mounted on a tripod, set at f/8 at 1/15 sec. You may want to try shooting with a smaller aperture (f/22 or so) to get more sharpness in depth. If you don’t have a macro lens, Bryan suggested buying a larger fruit, like a grapefruit, with a wider glass. Also, to keep the bubbles fizzing, throw in a little salt in between shots.

Happy shooting!
