this is very sculptural and very much art deco style. it would make a lovely heading for the fairytale, the fisherman and his wife an reminds me of teh work of the pre-raphaelites-- oh dear the names elude me

I'll go look them up--hold on

illustrations for this story

I was thinking of Kay Nielsen but is not Fisherman and wife, but think it is the illustrations for the Kings of the Golden Mountain-- the story written by Kipling's "uncle"--

here

John Ruskin
The King of the Golden River or the Black Brothers
1842, Everyman edition published by J M Dent & Co, London 1907

and sorry can't remember the illustrator but don't think it was Ruskin, but maybe the other uncle, Burne-Jones....

Mary C. Legg February 16, 2007

sorry, but I liked the fish muchly and I still cannot recall the exact illustrator or place of illustration. So I am fishing for it. W Heath Robinson for Charles Kingsley Water Babies or Uncle Lubin... is very bothersome to have a clear image in mind and not be able to tell you exactly where it is. So thank-you that you didn't take offence. #3953033
