Great Northern Grain Elevator - Buffalo NY

Uploaded: January 10, 2022 | Entered: January 10, 2022 19:44:00

Description

This is the Historic Great Northern Grain Elevator in Buffalo NY... It is significant because it is the last remaining brick-box structure and grain elevator in the county - it was built in 1897. Buffalo is known for it's grain elevators, which were used to store grain and send it to upstate NY through the Erie Canal - we have several left that have been put on the historic register. During the windstorm in mid-December part of the outer wall collapsed as you can see. Preservationists are trying to save it, but it looks like they are going to tear it down, which is very sad. I had to go get a picture of it before it's gone forever and was lucky we had a pretty winter sunset forming this evening when I got there. Shot with Lensbaby Velvet 28 to give the old gal a little glow before she's gone.

Thanks so much Kenny, Terry and Tammy! Appreciate you stopping by to comment! Yes, Tammy, it's sad especially because several of the grain elevators have been saved here in Buffalo and in fact right across the street is one they have turned into a restaurant area. #11956283
