Long Antennae, Long Legs

Uploaded: August 18, 2015 | Entered: August 18, 2015 06:34:26

Description

A species of katydid, also called a bush-cricket. Katydids get their name from the song produced by rubbing their wings together, which sounds like "Katy did, Katy didn't". Antennae are two or three times the length of the body. Their tympana (ears) are the dark patches near the bend on the front legs.
I believe this is a Lesser Angle-winged Katydid (Microcentrum retinerve) nymph. One of the differences between grasshoppers and katydids is that grasshoppers have much shorter antennae.
