Rocky's bees came out yesterday to work my crocuses, got a few shots of them. #1568667

Excellent series, Beth. I wish I could handhold my camera that steady at those speeds. I'd need to at least double them to stop the movement. #11014917

Kalena Randall April 01, 2014

Wow! Those are nice! I'm too chicken to get that close! #11015142

Jeff E Jensen April 01, 2014

Nice, Beth! I prefer the tighter crops and think you could go even more.

Kalena - when my guys are teaching about lens selection, they always say to chose your lens based on wether or not your subject can eat you. . . . #11015157

Great shots of this little guy in action. They all look good to me. #11015176

Thanks Dale. Kalena, they were too busy to pay any attention to me. They haven't been out much so they were way more interested in the flowers than me.
Jeff, I cropped a couple tighter, what do you think.
Thanks Mike #11015261

Dale Hardin April 02, 2014

Beth, I think such a tight crop only works when the resolution and sharpness supports it. #11015769

Anthony L. Mancuso April 02, 2014

Nice job Beth...Did you use flash for these at all? I'm surprised you didn't get more motion blur at those shutter speeds. #11015796

Elaine Hessler April 03, 2014

Oh I am so jealous!!! You have flowers! Our crocuses just popped out of the soil, we are a week or two behind you.

I think your strongest shot is the Gathering Pollen. I would not crop it more, because you lost some sharpness or resolution. I would keep the crop, darken the green leaf on the right, just a little bit, and do something with the stamen. It looks a little too bright and needs some sharpening too-it is taking my focus off the bee.

This is a super shot-I really like it! #11016770

Very impressive, and very interesting Beth. TYthe first image is my favourite. #11017410

Tony, I did not use flash, it was sunny and it seemed to work well. They really weren't moving a lot once they got into the flowers because they were so busy getting the pollen.
Elaine I did the edits you suggested. My first daffodil bloomed today, I was so excited.
Thanks Peter. Rocky lost several hives this winter and is getting 4 new ones in the next couple months, and I am going to try and take care of one of them. This should be interesting! #11017548

Beth --Glad to see you taking pictures of flowers and bees. I am guessing that most of the snow is over?? Spring has sprung. Your focus is quite nice and stands up to cropping well. #11018856
