Hey Frank, this is done by drops of water dropping in a bowl with colored cloth behind it and the bowl sitting on the colored material, and lighting, etc.

I must say, you make take 50 pictures to catch one before it hits or as it is hitting, etc, it it is always fun to see what you get! Thanks!
