The City Hall / Grand Place

Uploaded: February 03, 2013

Description

Brussels; f/4; 1/15 sec; ISO-3200; 18 mm.

The City Hall is one of my favorite buildings in Brussels and a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture. It was built on the south side of the Grand Place between 1401 and 1455. Once completed this magnificent edifice turned Grand Place, the famous square, into the seat of municipal power.

With its 96 meters high tower, capped by a 3 meter statue of Saint Michael, it remains a genuine and one of the most memorable attractions of the city.

The City Hall is generally counted among most luxurious European city halls due to its priceless paintings, tapestries, sculptures and much more.
