Learning To Fly

Uploaded: August 19, 2012

Description

Naked and helpless at birth this little robin with the care of his devoted mother has graduated from his nest and is now learning to fly. She chose one of our spruce trees to build her nest in and it just happened to have a grocery store nearby (hawthorn bushes with lots of berries). This little guy was holding on for dear life to the branch he was perched on. Mother was calling and I even saw her nudge him with her beak as encouragement for him to let go of that branch. He would have none of it! As the hours passed he eventually flew a couple of feet while mom was looking on and throughout the day I would hear him call to her and she to him. I trust he learned to fly and is happy and content on his way to adulthood. Did you know a robin could live to be well over 10 years old?
