Thats a wonderful tribute to Amelia. The girl who made so many aviation firsts. On her last flight in 1937 from Lae in New Guinea, after most of her round the world stages were completed, she had the great Pacific to get home. She and her navigator Noonan never reached the tiny few mile long Howland Island for refueling, about 2550 miles from Lae,due presumably to falty navigation as it was then. What an inspiration she was for us all, even us non aviators.Thats wonderful Allan. #1905444Daniel Diaz October 01, 2005

Kirsi,I realy should not take over from allan`s beautiful photo and tribute to a great lady aviator. But I could not help myself in writing again as I have always been such a great admirer of Amelia Earhart....And thats what allan`s presentation inspired me to do...and thats what a photo can do.She never reached the island on her way home, and it is unknown what eventually happened to the plane.I just saw on TV within the last two years,a full search of the island was made in case she did crash land, but it appears she never reached the island....A sad end to a wonderful lady aviator and trailblazer for aviation in 1937 at the young age of 40. #1905883Allan L. Thanks you all very much (Colleen, Pat, Karen, Colette, Carolyn, Roxanne, Joe, Danny, Kirsi {she and Noonan were never found, eh…}, Casey, Joy, and Joe 'II'{that's OK, Joe, I didn't know about the recent island search. Amelia was first inspired to learn to fly while in Toronto during WW1 and, incidentally, was a founding member and first President of "The 99s - the International Organization of Women Pilots"}) for the terrific comments and very kind words. They're always truly appreciated, my dear friends - your friend, Allan #1906457Siete Meeter October 01, 2005
