Tribute to Valour

Uploaded: December 09, 2011

Description

HD TV covers this well, but there is nothing like seeing things in person. The sculpting is absolutely magnificent, even capturing the texture of the jackets. The story behind it is profound.

December is a fitting month to post this photo, even though I am a Canadian and not American, both of our countries were hugely impacted by the War in the Pacific.

Mt Suribachi, Iwo Jima, Feb 1945

Sooo, after listening and reading to all your critiques and comments, this is what I have ended up with. I cloned out evidence of the tree and left the broad black base just looking into the sky for the full frame . . I don't think cropping it would enhance it now. #1428973

I like what what you've done Carolyn. It is very clean and gives the impression that it is not in a park but is on the hill. The dark gradient on the bottom helps draw attention to the men and especially the flag. Well done. #9856306

Thanks Dale . .. I am much happier with it now . .. it was tough getting rid of the trees that were between the legs of the statue, but think it is a better photo now.

I would not have known there was cloning out involved until I read the posts, so you must have done a great job! Love the light on the men :) #9857084

Thanks heaps Debbra . . . . the lighting on the men was God's work . . . it was getting late in the day and the sun was starting to cast its golden rays. So glad we got to visit this. It is truly an exquisite sculpture and an amazing tribute to valour. #9857275

Nice work, Carolyn. The lighting is wonderful and I think I "see" that more than I did in your original image. Another place I would like to see. #9861805

Great job on this. Carolyn. Until I read the comments I could not tell that there was any editing involved in the shot. That means you get an absolutely fantastic job. The shot itself is great. I like the coloring and the feeling that it presents. The sky really adds to the shot as well. #9898632
