Cactus Flower

Uploaded: May 28, 2011

Description

A few times a year the cactus plants near the only west facing window in our house bloom. The blooms are elusive and are often peaked and gone before we even realize they have bloomed. Not easy to get to position wise because of their location, still worth the effort to try and shoot.

Very beautiful ... like a painting. I love it! I love making photography look like paintings. Great job! #1380884

Carolyn, thanks. Glad you like it. I enjoy making the somewhat artistic looking pictures. Years ago I did oil painting art but when digital photography came along, I was able to satisfy my artistic outlet through that medium and so no longer do oil painting. So now I am starting to ramp up my use of artistic techniques to work with. This is one of the beautiful blooms which appear on one or two of our cacti we have growing on a stand near one of our windows. The blooms only last a day or two and they only occur infrequently during the year. Sometimes I'll miss them and only notice they've bloomed by seeing them after they're spent.

I think cactus flowers are so pretty. I have several succulents at my house mainly due to the fact that I usually don't kill them, LOL. Great artistic flair to this photo. #9433764

Thanks Misty. I think one of the attractions of cactus flowers is that they're rather elusive. The bloom only infrequently, often once or only a few times a year, and when they do bloom, the bloom has a very short life. So unless you're watching out for them it's easy to miss the bloom until it's shriveled away. #9433970
