Ice Pact

Uploaded: January 12, 2011

Description

Ricketts Glen State Park, PA
The rangers from this park and I have a pact that whenever I post a photo of ice from the park that I mention YOU NEED TO QUALIFY AND REGISTER AT THE PARK OFFICE to enter these parts of the park, which are closed in winter. These are some of the better "steps" in the park and you can see (another photo in Comments) it can quickly develop into impassable status.
I liked the look of the lines where the steps meet the wall, and the trapped greens behind the ice.

You can see that, although the steps require an alternate route, the going isn't too bad. That was last week. #1343517

Whoa! An excellent pair of photos, Marty. Excellent composition on both...and I agree with you about the lines in the first one. Excellent work as always. (And I will remember to register if/when I visit this part of the park! Promise!!!) #9158303

Wow Marty! I love them both, but think I like the second one best, can see more of why they would want you to register..safety reason I'm sure.

Great find and capture my friend!@

Yes, the pathways in the Winter in the parks can get very icy. We crossed quite a few yesterday at Blackwater Falls State Park. Both images are beautiful, Marty. But it still is great to get out. #9158601

Both images are beautiful,Marty..Love the textures and that single leaf on the ice..You captured the feeling perfectly.
In the second image I like the angle and pov,it gives you a sense of scale and also of place, with the variety of terrain, fallen leaves and the icy formations..Very well done..Great lighting and detail.. #9158648

Beautiful winter image! That's what the trails looked like in West Va where I was last week. #9159099

Looks a bit dangerous -- and after Jack's experience this morning slipping on the ice in our yard, I'm not too eager to try my luck! This is really beautiful, though -- I like the colorful little leaf that got stuck there! #9159388

Very cool shot, great close up highlighting - find some spots like this in the gorge (no registration necessary - although as the sign at the entrance states: "Your enjoyment guaranteed, but not your return - dangerous cliffs, be cautious", very apropos). #9161142

Wonderful find and capture, Marty!!! Can see that it would be dangerous to navigate around there!! Fantastic pov!! #9161380

The rangers are so right. They have to know your out there and if not back by a certain time, they can send out rescue teams.
both pictures show the dangers of the place, how deadly it can be despite its beauty. You have two versions, eacn one shows a differnt look at the same place with the steps, the textures of the ice, and the lines and shapes they make.
I am just glad you made it out ok and the rangers did'nt have to come and get you. Beautiful work my friend, loved the different looks. #9162306

I'm not at all sure I'd be intrepid enough to brave this winter park, Marty, but I'm glad you did for me. So cold the ice, but so nice the graphic of steps and frozen flow. Hope you had your ice cleats on. #9166206
