WOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW!
Excellent job. What did you do Mike to get this masterpiece? Please tell me "just be there at the right time."

Thanks for the comments Bernie! Actually you're right. I took this just after sunset. I used a tripod mounted Pentax 6x7 and F22 to get maximum D.O.F...but being in the rihgt place at the right time is what really counts! #3769

Mike,

Easy to see how this got the Grand Prize win. Congratulations on such a fantastic image!

Mike, beautiful colour, wonderful image. Are you a Kiwi, or were you just visiting? I live in Auckland, but have an Aunt and Uncle with a house on Lake Tarawera - it's such a gorgeous place to be! Think I better get down there and try and get some good shots.

Well done.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I'm a local. I live in Auckland and have been taking photos of our beautiful landscape for the past 10 years. The Fuji Velvia really suits the New Zealand light. #4472

Hi Mike, Congratulations on winning the prize. Its an excellent photograph...
I just wanted to ask, is there any digital touch to it? I felt like the wooden path is added digitally. I'm no expert and I had just this doubt, so I thought i'll clarify it. Please don't mind.
Thanks,

Congrats, Great photo. #4780

Hi Rajesh,

No, the path is not digitally added. This is how the image looked when I took it.

Fantastic! Congratulations and thanks for adding to my list of places I must visit!!! #9242

I know the dock(path) is real, but my first thouhgt was very similar to the previous. The dock looked surreal, pasted in. Even though I pretty much knew it wasn't. This is one of those amazing photos where strange things happen that are beyond our control..Very sharp, great color, well composed..a winner all around. #9247

Superb image, Mike - I love the gorgeous colours, clarity, and the lovely reflection of the clouds in the Lake! Many congratulations to you on taking out the Grand Prize with it back in 2001! My husband Phil and I live in Australia, very close to Lake Macquarie (just south of Newcastle), but I was actually born in Tauranga, New Zealand! Now - as Damian Gadal commented above - Lake Tarawera is on our 'must-see' list, when we next get a chance to visit New Zealand!

We have enjoyed browsing your gallery, Mike... So many wonderful images!! :) #949569
