King Juniper

Uploaded: June 23, 2010

Description

This Utah Juniper sits on a throne at what seems to be the top of the world in Dead Horse Point State Park. It waves, even without wind, with a strong sense of place. Being the King of the Mountain it oversees all of the magical splendor of this part of the planet, as if making sure all of its subjects remain loyal to the beauty that is canyonlands ~the beauty that can thwart any attempt of gloom.

Juniperus osteosperma. I say king, but she’s just as much queen, being monoecious. This photo shows part of the 360-degree view from her throne. #1281456

A close-up of his grip on the rock. Looks like you could easily push the king lose, but stronger forces than you continuoulsy fail to dethrone her. #8712541

What a remarkable series of captures with an equally remarkable commentary for each one. Marty, I'm totally stunned into a lack of superlatives here...and maybe that's good for they would fall miserably short of describing the emotions evoked between both your commentary and the captures themselves. Excellent work, all around, my friend. #8712819

Interesting and excellent series of photos...but the first one is my favorite. Superb composition and excellent detail and color...a very "regal" presentation. Great work...on all of them. #8712943
