What a challenging image to work with Debbie. Both ends of the extreme huh? You have seriously bright highlighted clouds and some very dark trees. I'm a bit concerned about the data you have to work with here. It's really cool how the fog seems to be flowing down the side of the mountain and the rich green and yellow of the trees is lovely.

I think I'd start by trying to clone the really bright cloud. The other light ones don't bother me...just that one. Then I'm wondering if you can brighten the area that is more of the right side of the image. It's almost like a rectangular block on the right that is in shadow. Probably due to cloud cover or another mountain. But then again you may like the way the light fades across the shot.

Do you have a filter on this? I'm liking the look from the fog back, but the foreground seems a bit too fuzzy. Probably the whole issue with not knowing for sure if there is a filter or not. :~) #1254708

Yes, Aimee - I was playing with the graduated neutral density filter and haven't gotten it down pat quite yet. The foreground is probably fuzzy because I think this was a "drive-by" actually. I can certainly lighten up the shadows a bit and dodge and burn on the two offending clouds. #8505974

Maybe try a high pass filter too then. #8505978

Fabulous Drive by Debbie.... as you know I do a lot of them!

Myself I would probably crop the bright cloud if it is an issue... I don't think it would detract much... Dale though, will have a good suggestions for how to approach it.

Other than that... wonderful image... Tho I agree if you opened up the shadows a bit, it would really be wonderful. #8505996

Yup, this has some good potential. You have received some good suggestions, so I'll just sit back and watch. . . . #8506002

Oh this is my kind of scenery, wow I love it! Debbie could you post the original? I'am sure you will have even better suggestions then but I like it already as is. #8507123

I love the fog rolling down the mountain here Deb, its a lovely shot..

I think its a good candidate for using multiple layers of different exposure settings using the RAW editor..I think you will greater success editing that way rather than dodging and burning. #8507292

I'd love to post the original but my son is home and guess who's room is now my computer room and it is now unavailable to me? He's still asleep so I won't try going in there for a while. It's been a long time since I've tried the layering of one image exposed for highlights and another for shadows and I wasn't much impressed with how some of those images turned out - but then that was about two years ago and I probably will do a better job now that I am understanding layers a bit better now. #8507442
